If you read the various technical specs at http://www.opieoils.co.uk you will see that a 20w oil is nearly 50% more viscous than a 10w oil when the cold temperature is 40C. At this time of year when we average 10C I have a 5w40 oil in my S2 and it flows much better when cold so can quickly lube the engine on startup - speeds up the starter crank speed also :D In summer I switch to the normal 10w40 - engine currently has just under 190k miles, doesn't use a drop between changes and is sweet as a nut 8)

If you have a poor engine, with wear, high oil useage and leaks then a 20w50 will help but it masks the underlying problem
