Apparently the above were not applied on the S2!?

Just realised this as mine have them(also bought another set as mine were slightly corroded!) & was searching how to re-fit as seem a bit tedious.

My query on the S2; is the rubber seal the same but just without the metal trim, or a different rubber seal with no recess for the trim?

What I've seen so far seem to be the same; up to 1989, & beyond

I thought all 944s had the metal trim - no different if it is a S2 / Turbo than a standard 944.

You need to fit the metal trim before installing the seal - recently replaced my seals with brand new and didn't fancy bending over and paying Porsche the high price for new metal trims. So I sanded the existing ones down, primered them and finished with some standard satin black paint from Halfords. I'lll admit I didn't do the greatest job but with a bit of patience you should be able to get a finish as good as a new trim. I managed to remove all the corrosion OK but didn't get a good coverage with the black paint so depending on what angle you look you can just see the primer underneath at the edges.

I found that some vaseline helped when installing the metal trim into the new seal, be careful not to apply too much force as the trims bend quite easily. Just take your time and gently push the trim onto the "tongue" / "groove" in the seal.

That's what I thought. But, I don't see the metal trims or part numbers looking through the S2/Turbo parts list :?

Then, as mentioned above, I keep seeing them stated up to 1989!?

Didn't realise they should be fitted in the seals prior to installing the seals; now my seals are in place :banghead:

Is it possible to fit them to the seals with the seals in place?

Anyone else got the metal trims in the seals on their S2/Turbo/968?

I've got a black metal trim around the outside of the rubber on my S2.

You mean these?

477853365A Trim frame /L £49.92
477853366A Trim frame /R £49.92

I've got them on my '91 S2 and they're in E_944_91_KATALOG.pdf.

Yes, those are the parts.

Strange! I have that Katalog but does not show the picture or the parts in the Body section.

At least I didn't buy them for nothing. Now, how to fit them in place with the seals already fitted :?

They are definitely in PET2 in the Body Section listed under one of the Trim categories along with the bonnet badge and side mouldings...

I was costing them up at the time to see if it was worth just buying new ones versus sanding down and painting my own. The metal trims on the doors were an absolute pig to fit as they had been slightly misshapen from being loose in the back of the car for several years.

Not sure if you can fit them once the seal is in place as they will probably be too tight to snap-in to place...

Will have to take out the seals at sometime later & refit with trims :cussing:
