My pride-and-joy 944S, which had previously given ten years of faultless service, suffered a catastrophic breakdown last year when a con rod broke while going up the motorway. It damaged the camshaft, took out the camshaft bearing, and also damaged the piston and cylinder.
It couldn't have come at a worse time; my 85-year-old mother had recently been diagnosed with aggressive acute myeloid leukaemia, in addition to the Alzheimer's disease that had been diagnosed previously. As her sole carer, I'd had to give up work several months earlier to look after her, and I couldn't afford an expensive repair on my meagre Carer's Allowance. My local repairer, the saintly MBS here in Exeter, very kindly agreed to store the car for me.
Six months later, after mum had sadly passed away, the funeral held and the unavoidable grim paperwork at least under control, I was able to get back to paid employment, and asked MBS to start work on the car. Unfortunately, despite trying to source parts to repair the engine for several months, they've drawn a blank. The con rod isn't available and they can't find an oversized bearing to replace the damaged one. The only thing that can save this car is a full transplant; a new engine.
I know it's probably a fool's errand to even ask, since the 944S is such a rare car these days, but I've got to try.
Has anyone out there got a spare 16V 2.5L 944S engine? I'll pay any sensible price and arrange for shipping from anywhere in the UK, or even nearer parts of Europe. It doesn't even need to be a complete engine; just the block, head, valves, crank, rods and pistons would be sufficient.
Getting my car back on the road would be a much-needed sign that my life is slowly getting back to normal after a very difficult time. Please, if anyone can help, I really need this.
