Well, exhaust is on. Me and Andrew both had stuff to do so came into work to use the workshop seeing as it has infinite tools, air, warmth and coffee. Was a bit of a faff to fit, but once it was all finalised and bolted up it was fine. Still need to order a stainless clamp to get rid of the u-clamp thats currently on it. It really needs a band clamp. U-clamps are pap.

And a little noise snippet for you... it does sound rather rorty and pops a bit on overrun. Muchly impressed for £211

Couple other wee bits. Guy was selling a short shift lever on ebay for relatively cheap. Fancied the idea of being able to use a decent gear knob. Was a bit of a faff to get all adjusted but its on and does feel tighter. Need to make a boot and gaiter now, so at least its given me another few jobs to do!

Then just recently i've been really fancying a set of all red rear lights, like a 968. Bought some film and had a go. The indicators are still orange when they flash so i'm leaving it on :)

I've also got to put this for its MOT at the end of this month, but might wait until I get back from my trip to Romania next month and use the bmw to save me having to rush about getting stuff done. It doesn't actually need anything, apart from front tyres, and i'm confident it'll pass to be honest, so we'll see.

Some stuff from the past couple of weeks...

My washers have always been so weak. Decided to give a universal washer motor a go. I've already replaced all the hoses and fittings and it's definitely not sucking air. Bought one that looked similar to the original porsche one then adapted it a bit to fit on the original bracket. I think it looks pretty good :)

And it now sprays like the morning after a night out. Excellent. Clean windows!

Then bought a universal CV boot and stuck it on the short shift lever. Adjusted it all up and faffed about to get rid of a bit of vibration there was and it actually feels very good.

Next step is to get ye olde sewing machine back out and make a tartan gaiter dealy for it.

THEN I got new tyres! New tyres just feel ace dont they? 205/50/17 Uniroyal Rainsport 3s. Wanted some lower profile 215s but the diameter difference between the front and rear 235/45/17s would have been too much for my liking. They had 205/50/17s on before I replaced them anyway, But they have cured like every steering/handling issue i've ever had. No more tramlining, no more vibration. I also gave her a DIY tracking and its spot on. Dialled out some camber and aligned it all. Drives perfect. Also, £60 a tyre then my mate fitted them for £10. :D I do really have a lot of respect for RS3s though, and since my mates have driven my car they have all converted. I think they are the perfect tyre seeing as I do a lot of trips and 90% of the time end up driving in the rain. You can pretty much drive like you do in the dry. It really doesnt make a difference if its wet.

Then made a trip to Edinburgh for Scottish Car Show. Thankfully there were a lot of retros to keep me satisfied all day.

Not updated this in ages since being on holiday and then being really busy. So quickly, she passed the mot with flying colours. A slightly loose wheel bearing and an 'oil leak', which I soon discovered the location of. Thought that was pretty good for the mileage and the use it's been getting over the passed year (About 5500 between MOTs). I've now owned it 13 months which is the longest i've ever owned a car

After I got back from my trip to Romania, I decided to neaten up the old 944. Wanted to find the source of this oil leak and do a few bits and bobs. I changed the oil for some millers classic 20w50 and a new Porsche filter. figured the grade couldnt do it any harm with the engine having 177k on it now! The oil was coming down by the cooler housing, which was impossible as I already did the gaskets. Turns out either the filter had worked itself loose a bit, or i'd been a bit of a tube when I was fitting it at the last service. New oil and porsche filter in and the tray has been bone dry for the last month or so. I also put a couple of new studs for the manifold for cylinder 4. One had snapped and the other nut had worked its way loose and was leaking passed. So thats all sorted now.

Took the roundels off and used some black vinyl I had lying about to do the centre of the lower part of the front bumper. It was a bit stone chipped and really needed covering up.

All in all the engine seems to be going really well in fact and has loads of power. Have a couple of bits and bobs to do now. Putting the original shifter back on and needs a new pair of door speakers. Want to see if I can fix my rear valence now too!

Been working on this over the past couple of weeks. Didn't really have any mechanical work to do while it was off the road so I went looking for wheels. It turns out nice wheels are hard to find unless you have deep pockets so i've decided to keep the Cup 1s. But now I suddenly had this idea of doing something to the Porsche burning in my head and the reality was it needs a front end respray. It's going in on the 6th for the full front end, rear valance and a repair to the door where some paint had come off with a sticker.

Went and saw an excellent bloke who gave me a decent quote and I set the date 2 weeks later so that I had time to work on the car, because obviously I wasnt going to make my life any simpler. I'd toyed with the idea of an S2 front end but the expense was mind boggling and it's been done a fair bit. So I decided to go a different route and flush all the tat off the standard bumper and get rid of the trims for the lights. This is a bit more involved than I originally thought but not difficult by any stretch of the imagination. All of the bits that attach the front end were broken or dodgy enough that they might as well be broken.

I removed the trims (both held on by one screw) and the lights (of which most screws were snapped) then removed the bumper. I then faffed about and removed the lower valance, aided by the fact that every bolt snapped. The air duct dealio was snapped so a new one was ordered and at a whopping £13 might be the best value for money Porsche part available? I cleaned up all of the lights and fibreglassed behind all the holes in the bumper, then fillered and sanded it all down. I went ahead and drilled out all of the dodgy rivnuts and pressed in some M4 nuts. I then fibreglassed and fillered all of the rivnut nub things to strengthen them up as most were broken. I made wee end pieces to cover the gap left by removing the trims and paints these black along with the clamping brackets for the lower valance. I also painted the radiator and all of its bracketry black to get rid of the overspray from the previous pap respray. I replaced every bolt, nut and washer with stainless. I deleted the pipework and wiring for the headlamp washers which didnt work in the first place. I then bolted the lower valance and air dam back on. The bumper is sitting just for the sake of the photo but i'll be bolting it on and fitting the lights this weekend as it goes to paint on Monday! I've also bought a genuine turbo rear valance which they'll be painting as well. If ive got time i'll fit it before paint to get it all ready.

And that takes us up to just now. I'll be getting some sort of front lip on once its painted. I've also got a few interior bits and bobs to do and paint some other things. Front end should look good anyway, and as its not really a common thing to do it should look rather interesting. Also the colour is a specific shade of Mitsubishi blue apparently, the guys at the paint shop had some amount of faffery getting it right.
