 Post subject: S & S2 fuel rails & Oil pressure warning light

Good afternoon Gents,

since the rebuild my car cost me almost nothing for a few months which is wonderful.

last month it decided that it would start playing with me again and the fuel hoses started to split, i replaced these with new braided fuel rated hoses and put it all back together.

I used an S2 fuel rail which i had in the shed, paired with my original FPR and injectors from the S injection system. I am also using the damper from the S2, the only difference i could see between the rails was that the S2 one had threaded ends (much easier to get hoses for)

Since then the car has been ticking at me like crazy & quite loud, i can't identify where it is coming from with a stethescope but it certainly isn't a lifter. although it's coming from the top right near the inlet/fuel rail

is there an issue with my frankestein fueling?

Side note, my oil pressure warning light started coming on intermittently, seems it only comes on when i'm coming off the throttle and when it's on but only a little. sometimes it doesn't come on at all...
the strange part is though that it's showing me good oil pressure and running okayish

I should also note that i have already replaced my oil pressure sender unit and flushed the oil system through..

You sure it's not the level light, they do play up and are very sensitive to the volume of oil and the angle of the car

I'm almost entirely sure considering I have emptied the sump and refilled properly, where is the level sensor? Maybe I can pull it and clean?

No Luck, i have recently found out that even if mine does have a level sender, the light for that is elsewhere and shouldn't technically light up as it is, see the attached pictures, this is it on cold idle and then giving it revs..

I was under the impression that the oil pressure sender also incorporated the light switch as well, but I will let someone else comment.

Update:

I have pulled my dash and checked for an oil level light, nothing.

cleaned up all the connectors and unfortunately nothing changed.

I'm now at a loss, replaced sender, checked gauges, where else could this be failing??

What is it that would suggest an oil pressure/ level issue? From this picture it looks like its a brake warning rather than oil pressure... on my 968 (IIRC has the same dash as the S2) the central exclamation mark warning illuminates with various warnings but on this picture there is also a brake warning light lit.... that could therefore be brake pads or a sensor wire failed.

The central exclamation light will also illuminate when the handbrake is on and it could be something as simple as the switch under the handbrake - they are prone to failure...

I would say he is showing zero voltage and that there is an issue with the voltmeter. If the voltmeter is accurate then your problem lies there. Battery or alternator related. The warning exclamation mark is indeed on because of a brake pad sensor trigger. However I believe the OP is referring to the low oil pressure light on the oil pressure gauge being illuminated despite showing 4 bar pressure. This is a case of the gauge disagreeing with itself and together with the supposed inoperative voltmeter I would suggest a clock pod clusterfuck is the issue. Try another set of clocks and take it from there.

Fair point Stuart, I missed the light on the oil guage :oops:

Perhaps the other warnings of brakes and voltage do point towards the binnacle itself being at fault rather than there being oil pressure or voltage or brake problems...

A Bosch hammer or Durametric may be able to diagnose these straight from the Ecu...

Thanks for your responses guys, my binacle is a bit dodgy but the handbrake switch never worked, the brake warning light is on because i pulled the sensor improperly & haven't bothered to fix it.
The voltmeter has only one come 3 times in 2 years each time showing 14~v but there's definitely an issue with that gauge.
Basically saying that this problem is independent and the central warning is only lighting up when the pressure gauge lights up.
I pulled the cluster and cleaned it all up, checked everything and all looked fine, i put it back and car fired up giving me all the same s*** so i turned it off and let future Dylan deal with it.

next day i went to fire it up and it wouldn't start, checked sparks & fuel, all good, oil in the engine looked a proper level so i assumed all would be well, went to fire it up again and it just puffed grey smoke out of it's arse end and wouldn't fire up.
Did a quick compression check which showed 175,30,175 & 180.
Wet compression of 180,100,180 & 185

Heart sank.

Somone crashed into me a month back (which i'm still waiting for the insurance to fix) i am awaiting the other insurers to send out an engineer to inspect my car. so i will now be adding a bottom end of an engine to the bill.. when the accident happened, i did not realise until a few weeks later that my intake ducting (after the filter) had been torn so i had been sucking in all sorts of crap.
Following my full rebuild just 6 months ago, where my cylinder walls looked okay and were holding 190 psi of pressure accross the board, i can only put it down to this. also noting that it started smoking on start up and hard accel a week after the accident.

Everythign crossed, i'll hopefully get my claim seen to and either they will write it off and give me some cash or perhaps they will repair the damage and i'll end up with a near enough brand new car!
