Hi All

What oil is recommended for the 944 2.5 1984 model, I am seeing conflicting things looking around.

Does anyone know Porsche's actual recommendation please?

Thanks
Rich

Typically in the UK it will be 10W/40, use a good mineral & change it often, every 3-5K. Mine used oil, especialy if driven quickly so I used to use Valvoline VR1 15W/50 which was great.

Great, thanks M8. I was going with 10w40 but thought I'd best double check.

If it uses any then move to 15W-. Id probably go straight to 15W- oil.

I don't think it uses any - but to be fair its only done 21 miles since I bought it last August so I wouldn't expect it to show.

All it does is drips it out the front from the belt cover, will strip it off when I get time. crank seal my bet.

Sooner rather than later! It will be the crank seal in all likelihood and the cam and balance belts will probably be drenched.

I use Shell Helix7 10W40 - many others here will quote their own make preference or other ideas even, which are worth a listen to - it just depends on whether you are just doing road use or track. If you are just paddling around on the road, a 10-40 will suffice your needs...

With regards the oil leak - it could be just the cam seal? Let's think positive here...!

Thanks Dave, I always fear the worst so I'll go with the crank seal till I've stripped the covers off :D the belts were only changed 2 years ago by the guy I had it off (he owns a garage), its only done 30 miles since.

This depends. I've seen the belts not get drenched due to how the covers and seal run.

However, on the first engine on my S2 I was unlucky ; it drenched all of the belts!
