sunroof panel was locked down. went to unlock to remove panel which worked fine. but now arms wont come back out to lock the sunroof in place again. you can hear motor turning in one direction, but when press button for opposite direction there is nothing.

is a microswitch seeing maybe the arms have gone too far back? and maybe the cogs come out of mesh with the wire? stopping the motor from coming back the other way. i have tried 2 switches as i thought it may be the switch. its not the motor as i plugged in another motor and had the same issue.

what else controls or affects the direction of the motor?

regards

There is a good writeup on clarkes garage on sunroof operation and troubleshooting. Depending on new or late car its usually due to microswitch position.

can be quite a few things. something to try is start the car and drive it forwards slowly. there is a relay/blob of electronics which controls power to the dashboard switch, depending on the ignition switch position. It senses when the car is moving and will put the arms back in place. I assume you checked the microswitches on the motor unit with a multimeter to verify they electrically work. also check the operation of the tiny switch in the windscreen rail (between the sunvisors)
