I've had problems with getting the handbrake to go down recently but when I went to park up, I pulled the hand brake up and it just dropped straight back down. No ratchet sound, nothing.

It seems that it will intermittently stay up. I'll drive to shop and nothing, when I get home it'll hold up again. It's very odd. Anyone care to shed some light on why this might be happening?

Mine has started doing this but in a paterne, every 3rd pull it doesn't hold. I think the wratchet mechanism is buggered I've got another handbrake lever to go on next time the seat is out.

People with 924s and series one 944s: buy a series two 944 handbrake lever . If you already have a series two handbrake lever then youre unlucky as theyre far better with a reliable ratchet. If its worn or broken youll have to replace it.

If it's only the handle then I don't mind so much, I was concerned there was a problem with a cable under the car or maybe the rear brakes.

This was covered on Wheeler Dealers on a 924, they changed the lever without removing the seat. From 5 mins 20 sec
