im comparing the total costs between a 400hp 924t engine build and associated management/turbo etc, compared to a crate ls3 engine which is 430bhp out the box and brand new for £5000.

just wondered if any1 in the uk had done this ls conversion? renegade hybrids in usa have a kit to convert, but unsure how much will suit rhd?

just weighing up options and costs

regards

not done it but have given it a lot of thought. I'm not a mechanic and would have to employ someone to do the conversion....so the costs for me would be much higher. I think I was looking at £12K-£15K. My 944 has been set up perfectly and is crying out for more power than it's present 160 ish BHP. I'm not at all interested in a turbo conversion, as I prefer predictable linear performance when pushing to the limit on track. The 968 engine is a possibility but would require new engine management, loom and sensors etc. The attractive thing about a chevy small block is that it weighs the same as my 2.5 8V lump and would not upset the car's poise. I'll probably run the existing set up for another season of track days but then my son and myself will probably be frustrated with the very modest performance on the straight bits

a friend of my son has done it...the car used to be a regular down the Ace Cafe...I think the guy may have moved to Ireland...I can ask my son over the weekend....the car had many changes over the years...supercharged then iirc procharged and had two massive NOS bottles in the back too...it was fast...can't remember more than that...there was a few video's on youtube some years back.

I investigated quite deeply when I had mine.
I have a load of info at home including adapter plate dimensions & part nose. Most of it is off the shelf.
Ping me a pm with your mail address and when I get home I'll send it over.

Promax have done a few of these as well.

I priced all this up a few years ago and did a similar thing collecting part numbers, adapter drawings etc of several forums. I worked out that if I did it myself and used second hand parts off ebay it was going to cost around £7-8k, using new parts was about double that.

Rengade Hybrids and Texas Performance concepts did the best kits at the time

Something i have thought about but not done much reseach on was using the Audi/Vw 1.8 20v Turbo engine. For example the 225hp standard engine in the TT can easily be tuned on standard components to 275hp, and with a bit of extra investment will comfortably make 350+ hp.

These engines, upgrade compentents and tuning options, not to mention tuning especialists are all readily available and relatively cheap.

Whenever this question comes up I just think Monaro, a lot less aggravation and a lot more chance of getting most of the money back if you sell.

The 2JZ is a heavy old lump - that will mess up the handling! (but with that much power, even with perfect weight distribution it would still be unmanageable)
