Prepping the block to put the head back on...

After a lot of very careful scraping, all remnants of the old head gasket are removed and the block is perfectly smooth to the touch. However the surface is not that shiny but fairly kind of grey / stained - but super smooth and no scratches, etc

Do I need to do anything more to prep it?

Many thanks,

Dave

You're probably good to go as it is, but personally I'd use a smear of hylomar on both sides on re-assembly.

Forgive this I may be "teaching grandmother to suck eggs"
It's not just cleanliness that matters: flatness is pretty important too!, is the head ok or does it need a skim, mine did after just 17,000miles.

Good point, but head corrosion welded, skimmed, new valve guides too.

After all that, just wanted to be sure that the block was 100% ready for re-assembly

Wasn't sure if the block needs to be shiny clean or just 'clean'
