My S2 is currently away being painted after having the sills replaced and front wings repaired. So far i have managed to source most of the little bits and pieces required to put the car back together but i am having trouble trying to find suitable seals for the rear lights,
does anyone know where i can the original type of seal or is their a suitable alternative that works well?

I used silicon and have not had any issues. Others say silicon not a great idea if you need to remove the clusters again. However mine have been leak free for over 5 years now and there would be no need for removing them unless they got damaged.

The OEM stuff is still available from OPC I believe. Others have used different stuff, I'm sure some more techniques and products will be discussed soon!

Cheers

Stuart

I just did mine with butyl tape. It's as near as I could find to the original sealent. I don't think they'll ever leak again! Not sure if they'll ever come off again in one piece though!

I'm sure you will, but make sure you stick it to the light cluster first rather than the car body work. It sticks like sh#t to a wet blanket. I joined mine at the bottom of the cluster in the middle and moulded the join together as it's really playable stuff. Good luck.

The mastic from Porsche is not mega money TBH but some dealers are a little funny in regards to the quantity they sell it in. It may pay to call around :). Mine did not leak with the mastic reinserted but they were enough of a pain to remove with the original mastic in place!

FWIW I had to remove them due to the car seeing a knock ; it was my daily driver.

I have used the butyl tape - this was fine, but you have to be sure that the tape is in the correct place, otherwise it can still leak.

On my latest 944 I am going to use neoprene and make a gasket, as this will make removal of the light units easier for future maintenance. Not hard to remove lights when fitted with the butyl tape, but it grabs quite well and can take a while to clean all of the residue off.

I bought my butyl tape from Wayside Adhesives, wasn't very expensive, and did the job :)
