I just bought a genuine steering shaft from my OPC but notice that the bolt holes for the clamps are not the same way round as the original. This means the only way I can get the new shaft is to fit is to turn the steering wheel through 180 degrees so that the recess in the steering column shaft lines up with the clamp bolt hole. But this would mean the steering wheel would then need to be removed and rotated 180 degrees. Is this right or do I need to take this thing back to OPC?

I bought one recently and it went straight on same as the old one. Would be no biggie to flip the 'wheel though.

I had the same issue with my new steering shaft and took my steering wheel off and rotated it 180 degrees. Just don't wreck the airbag clock spring when you do it :) ask me how I know ;)

I did a post on it with pics... Will see if I can find it.

This is on my to do list for my 951, passed MOT fine without mention, but I can feel a little play in mine.

Had previously considered JMG's improved version, but out of interest, how much are OPC charging for the original ones?

I was going to get an uprated one from JMG - only went OPC as they had it in stock locally

Hi Folks -

I've never heard of getting a new steering shaft!? However, having said that, my steering was a bit loose a while back and my tech re-torqued the UJ link - no charge and problem sorted out...

Not sure how you can do that, as the UJ's are pressed in then mechanically staked in place?

Hi Waylander -

The play on mine was found to be the coupling joint just next to the outer bulkhead (ie exhaust manifold area). The coupling, that I called a UJ, was lose on it's splines, hence the play...

Sorry for the confusion...

Never good to have loose bolts on your steering, could end up in an embarrassing moment
