Mine is on 216000 miles and is at the moment in the garage having the following done - mainly for peace of mind.

Water pump (never been changed), cam chain and tensioner pad, gearbox oil change, all belts, new accelerator pedal (original one about to break), and a full service.

If you look after them things last well. As I've said many times before - my clutch lasted 201000 miles.

I think the main reason for this John is that yours is used regularly & probably on reasonably long journeys. I did a water pump a few years ago for a member on a 2.5 Auto, it made a god awful racket. When we stripped it off it was like a cheap Chinese ratchet. And was probably a few hundred miles from seizing or collapsing & throwing the cam belt off.
When I did Paul's belts last year 3 of the 6 tensioners were suspect one very. Yet they had been done 4 years & around a 1000miles previously. Two I might have put back but one definitely not. And the problem is each one is around £40+VAT! Luckily we already had them.

Hi Jim, I though I was aiming for 3 years or 30,000 miles service interval on the belts, rollers and tensioners. It sounds like you're saying up to 4 years is permissible. Is that right / recommended? Sorry, probably a very common question!

Cheers

Chris the official figure from both Gates & is 45K miles & 3 years but Paul had stretched it a bit. The belts were fine but one of the tensioners rattled when spun like a pensioners false teeth. The other two were noisy as well.

Mine rarely gets used now Jim, did 1700 miles between MOTs this time. It used to do 20000 a year. It's been stood on the drive a couple of years, and since it's been back on the road it's spent most of it's time in body shops and garages, time passes quicker than you think. Although it's only done about 25000 since the last belt change, it's actually been six years and the belts have diminished with age.

I've been lucky - it was the balance shaft belt that shredded.......

Should have it back this week.
