I think my steering is too heavy, however I have nothing to compare it to except modern cars. I've checked that the steering column is not pressing against the exhaust manifold. It's had a new universal joint at some point, Jacked up engine off, it's light as anything. On the ground engine off virtually impossible to move. Engine on feels OK but seems heavy compared to modern cars. Does this sound normal? Anything I can do to make it easier.

Yup, sounds normal :). A number of none PAS cars have been easier!

TBH my 951 was heavier than my S2 which was not light. I put it down to the 951 being fully setup (geometry check for all of the adjustable parts of a 944) with the caster being increased. It self centred more than most 944s I have driven and generally was quite surefooted.
