I have come to the conclusion that my 2.5 ton fully laden van stops better than my 944 and considered the amount of brake dust I am getting at the front. I think my current pads are made of papermache. I first I thought my ABS wasn't working but i have realised they do not even have enough bite to lock up! So before I buy a set of pads does anyone have any suggestions on decent pads. I was looking to get some 'red stuff' pads as they have always seemed to be a decent make. But I know ill buy them and someone will tell me " I could have got xyz for ........" Cheers

I'm using the yellow stuff, don't stop any quicker but feel decent and more performance when used multiple times and hot.

I'm using red stuff, very little dust but you do need to get them warm

Oh ok. I always thought, yellow stuff needed warming up and red stuff didnt. Yellow being track focused and red - fast road. I'll get yellow then. Cheers guys

Yes, yellow are very good from cold and don't produce a lot of dust.

Yes same size. I run Yellow front and std rear. The yellows squeal annoyingly but stopping power is excellent.

To go against the grain here I would not trust anything from EBC even if they paid me. My experience of their products has not been great. So much so that I question what brake setups people had on their cars before (i.e how old, glazed and tired were they?). Maybe I have just been unlucky.

Mintex M1144s work very well from cold and hot for the best part but availability is an issue. Ferodo DS2500s are another option.

On another car ( a Ford Mondeo Mk3 at that) genuine pads were the best I tried by a significant margin. I tried all sorts of pads on that car over its 300k life including Vetech (squealed like a pig but braked OK), Driveline (a little clunky but OK), Bendix (I am shocked that they call themselves an OE supplier ; three times I used their pads with horrific fade under normal conditions), Pagid (good but dusty and short lived), Mintex (similar).

I've got ECB green stuff on my sprint mini and that stops on a sixpence hot or cold. Granted, its 1/2 carbon fibre and weighs only 500kg

Out of interest whats the dust situation like with the Mintex M1144s?

That's quite funny really. On a friend's Clio 172 the GreenStuff were almost dangerous and it involved him wasting money on brake fluid changes (From what was in the car to DOT 4 to Motul RBF600) and even disc brake changes (the car came with GS). Upon going to M1144s it was like a revelation and he was frustrated for not trusting his gut. I know this since I have driven that car on many occasions. A tyre fitter is very sceptical about going for performance pads after saying how long it took for Redstuffs to warm up on an Audi A6 2.7T (he said he almost wrote the car off because he thought he would be unable to stop!).

On my Spitfire I really did have to say a prayer to make that car stop and it is something another friend commented on who was familiar with cars without a servo. It seemed the previous owner did too. He changed the front flexis despite there originally being Goodridge items present, change the master cylinder to no avail. Simply going for TRW replacements transformed the braking on that car. Admitedly most classic car sellers sell cheap Chinese rubbish for British classics regarding brake pads. Likewise my Mini on Mintex stock pads unservoed was superb and very trustworthy even without the servo.

However, as you say many people do seem to be happy with them.

As for dust M1144s are dustier I am afraid to say. That I would say is their bad point. They are also a tad noiser with braking, probably down to working the discs harder.

Im with Chas. EBC are shocking in my experience. May as well by ECP or GSF sin bin pads. Ferodo DS2500's, Pagids & currently trying performance friction which are so far ok... However next time im going back to DS2500's for all round good performance...

I'm running EBC Green Stuff all round in my 968 and also used to have them in my old Octavia. I have no complaints with their performance, although they do seem dustier than the first set I bought and fitted to my old A3.

I've not had to change the pads on the turbo yet, but had Pagids on my 'S' and they definitely improved things. As for EBC - I had EBC Greens fitted to my old Octavia vRS and the result was a huge improvement over standard.
