Evening all. Just thought I'd join the forum and say hi.

I've just done a 630 mile round trip from Durham to Crawley today to pick up this:

Image

Its an 88' 2.5 S 16v in Black with Cream interior. This is my first venture into Porsche ownership although I'm no stranger to classic cars as I own a few classic VW's. After my 300+ mile drive up the road with it I'm in love with it already. I can't get my head round the fact you can buy something as good as this for the same price as a Golf GTi of the same vintage.

It's in great nick and only needs a couple of very minor jobs. Can't wait to get the polish out tomorrow and give it a good clean. I'll post some more pictures up when I've cleaned it.

Anyway I look forward to chatting with you guys (and girls) on here and hopefully learning more about 944 ownership.

Many thanks,

Craig.

Hello Craig, I'm not far from you and recently bought myself a 944S. Very happy with it other than the slightly hesitation at idle that I'm trying to sort. Quite often up your part of the county as the folks live in East Grinstead.

Nice looking car, be tip top once polished!

Hi to you Craig and welcome.
Nice looking car you have bought.
Yes I agree the cars are a bargain when compared with other classic cars.
I have only been a 944 and only Porsche owner for 18 months myself after owning several other enthusiast cars.
I got into these particular Porsches due to the fact that my daughter used to race a 924 and I was amazed at how well they handle.

Hi Craig, I have owned my 88 944S for nearly 7 years now, and it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. :D They are a great value, fantastic looking (in my opinion) classic car, and very reliable with regular servicing.

Also, I hope you have some paperwork showing when the all important belts and rollers were last done, if not get them done ASAP as it will ruin your engine if they let go :(
Welcome to the forum and enjoy :)

Lovely looking car, I'm interested to know where you found this for sale? I haven't seen it listed in the usual places. I've stopped looking on pistonheads as it's more annoying than helpful.

Hope you enjoy the car.

J

Many thanks for the comments guys.

Sadly I didn't get a chance to polish the car today as the wife wanted to go shopping. I couldn't really say no seems as she drove me down to crawley and back yesterday lol.

I did manage to give it a quick wash and hoover though and get a few extra pictures.

Lilmspiggy - it had a full top end rebuild 10k ago and belts and pulleys were done then. When is the next belt change due?

Hotblack944 - thanks for the link, yeah i'd had a quick look through. Nice to see some trimmers selling the fabrics as i may need some of that.

Jase1969 - As the other Jason has put there I found the car on carandclassic. My first port of call was eBay but within my price range they were all large projects. This one was a great find for the money, i'm well pleased.

List of jobs I need to do on it:

Heated rear screen doesn't work. Its just the wire attachment come off, should fix with electrical glue.
Oil pressure gauge sender unit to change. I got a new one with the car, just need to change it.
Drivers seat base has a little bit of stitching coming away but shouldn't be too much trouble for the trimmers
Couple of bubbles just showing under the top of the windscreen seal will need attention at some point.
Front wheels to balance.

And thats pretty much it. All in all I'm really happy with it.

Anyway a few more pictures of the car:
