Hypothetically speaking, if one were to have had a relatively modest rear shunt in a 944, this is the sort of bill you could expect for parts ....

Rear depend on hard much off impact. Plus the value off your car. Any impact anywhere will right off most "lux" if new parts are used, wing is £800.

But where lucky there are new parts

Turbo wing is cheaper then.

After my little excursion off road the bill has come in at £4168 using new parts and labour, the insurance company did not even flinch :)

Always good to ensure that you have a generous agreed value with your insurance company for these cars. I'm thinking of increasing mine significantly for my 928. The price of some of these older cars seems to have shot up a bit recently. You need to ensure that your policy will either cover some expensive repairs or enable a replacement. Standard insurance policies won't do that.

Hypothetically speaking....

Agreed values seem to be meaningless as mine was set at £6.5k whereas the insurer said it would be determined by the inspecting engineer...

It actually raised a point in that the majority of parts any of us might need are relatively easily available on the secondhand market at prices which laugh in the face of the new parts listing. How does that figure in an insurance valuation - I'd be quite happy to fit good S/H parts, but an approved repairer probably wouldn't.

I guess it lies in the hands of the assessor...

When my wing was dented by a lorry, insurance wanted to pull and fill dent. I got a new wing but they wanted the cheapest route for them selfs

Which I could off got do everything myself for less then my excess

My insurance company (Peter James) lets me set an agreed value up to £15k without any inspection. The agreed value is underwritten separately from the main policy. I've had a full pay out from them at agreed value a few years ago so know they pay up.

The insurance company let me specify where I could send my car for repair. I specified a Porsche approved body shop for mine as they will only use new original parts.

I'll be bumping my agreed value on the 928 up to £15k at the next renewal. Perhaps more if I get an inspection.
