Bought my first porsche yesterday and im very happy. Now down to business, gear lever is sloppy so im looking to get the main and rear linkage replaced. Any idea what a garage would charge and does anyone know of a trusted independent in north Birmingham area.
Also need to get the rear screen replaced, so same question really, what cost I should expect and where to go.
Cheers

I got a new rear screen supplied and fitted for £200 up near Glasgow. I believe that was an exceptional price! Roof needs to come off so have to factor in labour for roof removal/re-fit and then unpick old window, remove, supply new window, re-seal, stitch etc.

I was being quoted £300 odds up to a grand!!

Good luck.

Stuart

Is it a do it yourself job with the transmission still in place?

depends on just how hands on you are, it is doable in place but much easier with the rear exhaust box out of the way.

they can be a real ()_*&(**&(* to get off.

Dropping the tranny isn't such a big deal ...

I had to replace the upper mounting which is - allegedly - doable with the box in place. My experience didn't support that assertion and I ended up with the car up on stands with a jack under the trannny while I released the bolts which held the mounting beam to the body. Dropping the trans gave me enough room to wiggle the beam out so I guess you could do the same for the linkages... Refitting was the opposite of removal, just pumped the jack up and bolted the beam back into place...

This is where I went to get my rear screen done on my S2 cab : http://www.kbaggstrimming.co.uk

Cost me £240+VAT last year. A bit of a trek for you, but as it was recommended by JMG, that was good enough for me.

Cheers,
Bryan

Porsche shop have quoted £220 + vat, supply and fit all the bits. That'll do me. (The linkage, not the screen, that is)
