ok to be honest I have found the answer to this by resorting to desperate measures...reading the f==== manual :D I have found the driving lights in the same place as the side lights but they don't come on..will check fuses and bulbs...I'm guessing there is no switch.

Doh?! thickest question ever I know but doing up the lights I keep reading about about drivers lights? Some sources are in the US so they have different laws I know,
My middle lights are parking / side....stay on with the indicator to conveniently flatten battery when parked....
the bottom rectangle lights have a fog switch but work as driving lights. they come on with main lights and go off with main lights...but they are on whether on main or dip and I read the driving lights are only on main beam? So is the front fog switch driving lights and best left on?
the nightbreakers are fab btw although I guess I'll see how long they last. Its a cheap way to improve night driving for £12 :D

oval dash 86 btw

Lamps in the PU, where fitted, are always fog lamps. The bumper mounted lamps that all 944s had were driving lamps (spot lights, if you like) which incorporate a side lamp.

Series one cars had a switch on the centre console (and some had a second blue tell tale lamp too) to enable you to switch them on and off. Series two cars dispensed with this and they should be permanently on.

Earthing on all 944s is terrible and I have had lots of problems with this spot lamps caused by poor earthing behind the dash. Assuming that the bulbs are both good, then this would be my first guess, followed by a bad eath somewhere else...

Thanks 944man,
very helpful. It looks like the bulbs don't come on at all so that will be my first change, then work from there . Thanks for replying :)
