How can I tell if the front struts can be rebuilt with inserts, or whether they need complete strut units?
The reason I ask is that my dampers are shot, and I'd really like to replace them with Bilstein inserts (past experience and reputation say Bilstein are quite firm and very long lasting). My outer struts are also badly corroded, but as far as I can tell, Bilstein only do inserts and no one seems to sell new outer struts. But if I can pick up a decent used front set that can be rebuilt, that should work....... if I know what to look for.
