As a side note, in general, are the plates cleaned up and re-used then?

As an article I read suggested they be binned and replaced with new?

Same here I am reusing the plates they are in good order, if my budget was bigger i might consider new ones. You cant see them once on and they have come up nice and clean.

Hi all calipers back from the powder coaters, They look very nice, I will post some photos.

In my excitement I did not notice the cross over pipes where missing. I tried contacting the vendor but alas it was too late in the day.

I for any reason I can't get them back what are my options I think with my new tools I could probably make one.

Any advice would be great

Cheers guys

Yeah - no problem if you've got a pipe kit, if you're a bit anal like me it might take a couple of goes to get the bends right but it'll not be too difficult... I used a short length of black silicone vacuum hose to replace the manky poly pipe that was originally there...

Just to add to this discussion. I am still slowly trying to get my S2 back on the road. Finally plucked up courage to look at the brakes and the front calipers look ok for now so I have given them a good clean up and that should do for the MOT.

The backs are a different story. Handbrake shoes down to the metal and half the springs missing or broken, discs knackered and calipers looking rough. I have removed the rear left as one of the plate retaining screw heads had snapped Off!!! Brake pipes did not survive though so I need to get some cuprinal pipe now as well. Got the sheared bolt and the remaining 3 out ok, I welded a nut on the stud of the snapped one. And the plates cleaned up a treat with a rotary wire brush. Need to clean them paint them and get them back together now. I have ordered replacement screws locally but have had to order a box of 150 so I may have a few spares if anyone needs some??

I had more of a problem with the bleed screws. Had to use heat on both of them and really need to replace them now. I have seen somewhere someone using a cheap alternative to Porsche ones, I think it was ford mondeo or something. Does anyone know or this there a look up area for cross referencing alternate parts on here???? I need to get these ordered ASAP as I really want to get it in for its MOT this week.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Donald

Hi all

I am just reassembling my front calipers, I will post up some photos.
I have a question for you all, what torque is applied to the caliper mounting bolts.

cheers

Mark
