Got a slight weep from the cam cover gasket on my 944S2.

Is this a pretty straight forward DIY job and are any specialist tools required?

Many thanks
Paul

Simple enough to do Paul, you can get a new gasket from OPC, and also worth getting new gaskets for the spark plug holes.

As you will have the cam cover off to do the slipper pads, it will be ideal timing :) Some suggest smearing RTV on the corners to prevent leaking.

Hi, in addition to what Andy advises above, it might be a good idea to get a complete set of cam cover bolt seals as well. They tend to harden with age, and once disturbed (by taking them off), they can be problematic when resealing. Again, all available at reasonable price from OPC. A further good 'while in there' replacement is the two 'o' rings fitted to the plastic caps in the cam cover. Like the bolt seals, they harden and start leaking, so for a few pence I would advise replacing those too. Simple job with circlip pliers.

Hope that helps..

Yep - good point Rhett!

Be careful with the bolts though, as I think they are quite pricey from OPC. Best to shock them when undoing.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Going to order all the parts for these jobs this week from Sheffield OPC.

( I will also be replacing the slipper pads, I've updated that on the separate thread )

Just a few questions to clarify:

Referring to the parts diagram below:

Ive got listed to buy the following parts:

Item 6

Item 7 qty 4

Item 9 qty 2

Item 10 qty 2

Rhett please can you tell me what item number are the cam cover bolt seals you mentioned ? ( Item 12 ? )

Have I missed anything?

Any additional gasket sealants to be used or loctite products ?

Many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul, I think you have posted the wrong parts diagram for the parts you require. I have looked at your other thread and seen the diagram there...that is the one you are referring too...I was a bit confused for a minute.

Yes , you need one gasket Item 6, 4 spark plug seals, item 7, you probably wont need 2 circlips item 9 (unless you break or lose one  ), but you do need 2 of item 10 the o ring. Item 12 - these are called 'thrust rings' and they are the cam bolt seals I was referring to. You need one for each bolt.

Hope that helps.
