Just when I thought I was making progress. Tailgate broke yesterday driving home. Sounded awful. The glass is ok but has come away from the frame. On close inspection the frame is in poor shape. Clearly it has been bodged before & has many holes drilled in it on the inside??? I can see 3 different types of filler/silicon/glue poking out around the edge.
Think that renovating it would be a massive job. Has anyone done this or should I just look out for a better one on ebay. £40 seems to be the going rate.

Thanks Lindsey, Kiddlington is a bit far for me to collect. Trying for one in Barnsley! Even if it needs refurbing if it's not been done before it will be easier I hope. It's just the time & petrol to collect the thing! My bridge spoiler is well sealed on. Hope I can get it off without wrecking it. :|

Isn't one of the breakers around there? Not an uncommon problem it seems some do some don't. I do shout at Becky (Mrs TR7V8) when she slams the tailgate shut with one hand on one side  We've only had the car 3 years & still the message hasn't got through.

Just found a 924 one in Huddersfield. Very cheap. I can dump my nasty ariel & maybe even the rear wiper that I never use & looks messy. The weight savings got to be worth .25 of a HP :) Bit of paint & it should be as good as new. Not sure if it's the right colour tint??? Thought mine was smokey & this looks green. Or are they all green? Will soon see. Theres always the new Lexan one for £400 when I win the lottery.
Trouble is Jim I use the hatch a couple of times a week. Thats the problem of using one of these as a daily drive.

Sorry to steal the thread.

I took the rear locks off my tailgate at the weekend and uncovered a few surprises:
Firstly there was cardboard packing between the lock and the bodywork which I assume was supposed to work as a gasket :?: The cardboard had done a very good job of blocking the reserviors and allowing the water to leak all over the carpets. Any idea if there should be a rubber gasket or similar in that position:?:

Secondly, there were the remains of a cone shaped rubber grommet in one of the locks. Not sure if this should be there as a 'buffer' for the locking bolts! There were only parts of it left on one side so would be good to get everything correct if they should be there. Any ideas.

I'm fitting a new hatch seal so would like to finish the whole job in one go if possible!

Thanks

Mine has what looks like a rubber gasket under the lock. Fairly thick. About 4mm.
Just collected my new old tailgate. Needs a lick of paint but the glass is good. It only just fitted in with the spare wheel removed &P my knees under my chin. :)
