944's arn't about brute power. It's a complete package. Too many modern cars do things just too well. The Porsche 944 is just big FUN.

Hi and welcome from me. 944T's are great and even in standard 250bhp terms they'll bring a smile to your face every journey. They're pretty light weight compared to your Volvo and with a better weight distribution will feel totally different. Mines been modded to what most feel is the sweet spot for these cars which is around 330bhp 380lbft torque. In a car that weighs 1350kg, just over the weight of a modern Mini Cooper, that's a fairly potent combination. You're quite welcome to have a go in mine but I am the other end of the country from you in Somerset. I'm sure there's someone up your way who will have a similar setup so try to get along to your local club meet.

Believe me the standard turbo was quick even by todays standards so 20 years ago it was spectacular hence the gp20 insurance. 5.9 sec 0-60mph dash and 162 top speed. 2nd gear will pull 70 mph, 3rd will see past 110mph. Lucky we can get classic insurance for them now.

Still waiting for a 3" complete exhaust system inc turbo downpipe. I've got some other bits aswell but can't for the life of me remember what I had done, I've changed and upgraded quite a lot.
You can start with a chip set, DPW, BOV and boost improver. This will see you around 290bhp and a totally different engine charactor which would leave your "Focus in a dress" as you call it for dead. Rav on here has a similar setup on 220bhp model.
Weight wise don't forget there's no Side impact Protection beams, crumple zones, air bags etc etc to lug around and there's no diesel shopping trolly version in the range, these cars are purpose built for one thing - Performance.

Excuse me is that a misprint or really £6k :shock:

Hi Everyone, Been mulling over a Second car - something a bit more fruity for the weekends, and I keep coming back to the 944 Turbo on the grounds of cost, excitement and a whacking big Turbo. I've been riding around in a Volvo for a while, I'm a later starter to the world of exciting Motoring - on the upside my current one has circa. 285bhp and 300lbs-ft and drives quite well after some upgrades. I'm looking to meet some Porsche owning folk - get my research in order with a view to a tidy 944 turbo being my second car (although I'm somewhat open to persuasion on exact age, model etc....) Budget is 5-10k depending on how good it is. I'd really want 270bhp+ at the wheels, so it feels 'quick' compared to the Volvo - so I'd like to learn about tuning, but not really of the Max Power ilk as I prefer the modifications to by and large stay under the bonnet. Look forward to meeting folk and making friends - I'm based in Glasgow.

944's arn't about brute power. It's a complete package. Mine can't even scrape 200hp (n/a) but sounds fantastic & puts a smile on your face every time you drive it. Too many modern cars do things just too well. The Porsche 944 is just big FUN. Join the club. Drive a few. Then decide. A world away from a T5! Only problem is finding a good one as there the cheapest believe me. Better spend 7K on a good turbo than 4 + another 5 fixing it.

That's kind of what I was trying to get across J.J. just couldn't come up with the right words. Driving a 944 is a totally different experience to driving a 'modern' car, especially the 1980's turbo lag and there's no traction control, brake distribution etc etc. You can 'feel' exactly what the tyres are doing you're not detached from the car you become part of it as long as it's set up right a lot out there are tired now. You've got to drive a few to get a feel for the right setup before you go try some to buy for yourself. If you find one that works well then it will reward you back ten fold. Happy hunting Andy

Happy Boosting Andy surprising my Volvo has a kerb weight of a mere 1450kg, a lot less than some models (it's an S40 so really it's a Ford Focus in a frock.) I like the idea of something fairly manual that won't be an embarrassment to take to the golf club (I'm just about to start learning!) 330bhp and 380lb-ft of torque certainly sounds quite appealing. I'm not planning on any immediate trips to Somerset but I'll definitely let you know if I'm down your way - really appreciate the offer What's a good Mod list to get started once I find a decent one?
