Hi and welcome to the forum. Those side skirts were really hiding a nasty condition. There's plenty of guys who will be able to offer advice on how to go ahead but sounds as if you know your way around with a grinder. Good luck with the repair |

May be cheaper just to buy another. Recommend one with 12 months ticket! There so cheap to buy at the moment. You should put it through the mot first & see what else it fails on as the seller was clearly dishonest & it may need all sorts. These cars aren't economic to restore. If it has a good engine & gearbox it may pay you to find a non runner with a good body. ![]() |

Ouch, hello and welcome, unless you're pretty handy with a welder may be better breaking it, or buying one with a good body and broken engine and doing a transplant |

Thanks for the welcome guys! I previously bought a 1989 merc coupe and that had rust issue also, but ended up cutting and welding (i have a prety handy welder in my area, he is quite cheap) Having previously dealt with rust, i was feeling depressed as i know what its goint to take to restore this one. Only other fault is a loose UJ on the steering column. Im going to call up EMC motorsport in a day or 2 after all is cut out to see what to do next. Might end up fabricating a new sill over a new chassis rail hooked up to a rollcage? Might be the longer lasting aproach...... comments welcome! Also, how much will it cost me to get the sill shipped to me Lee 944? Thanks! |

Hi and welcome! Sorry to see you seem to have bought some work but you sound like you know what you are doing. Take a look at Elliot Newmans website http://www.porkaparts.com , he shows how he did his sills, some helpful photos too! ![]() |

Just picked my 944S from EMC today, they did the clutch and fuel lines at what I thought was a reasonable cost, and they certainly seem to know what they are talking about on 944's |

indyz12 wrote: Also, how much will it cost me to get the sill shipped to me Lee 944? Thanks! Hi, it will cost £67 per side including the P+P. Some of our members in Scotland have used these with great results. It is not me who is selling them, I am just passing on info' of the guy selling them, but he is the RO in Scotland for TIPEC and a friend. If you want the kit ( it includes the quarter repair panel ), let me know and I'll pass on his details to you and you will deal with him direct. |

I hope your right re the apparent fault. Mine had no apparent faults for 3 months. Then it hit the fan. All Im saying is go into it with your eyes open. Early '44s have little value at the moment. Rust free ones with lots of history less than 1K. Mad it is but there you are. ![]() |

Hi. Much appreciated Lee, will contact you shortly to get the details ![]() I realise the cars go cheap, even the rustfree - but im not the kind of guy to go and buy a troublefree car - if you know what i mean ![]() I like to sort my cars out and know the machine inside out and that way if anything goes wrong, its more expected than sprung on me ![]() Im into my classics, and currently starting my collection of restoration cars at the age of 24 lol I have ample experience around cars as i graduated from Cov uni 2 years ago and was involved in racing within the tintops series -we were team 206 from cov uni! We rebuilt the pugeout 206 2.0 130BHP engine to a 220BHP rating at 5600rpm with max torque available from 1800 rpm - 5600rpm using original rods, original crank, new pistons, new cam, new intake and exhaust- all done with the knowledge gained over the 3 years and use of the simulation software - now if only i had access to the software again......... i recon using the original bottom end and rebuilding the top with a new ca for the 944, 260 BHP will not be far off achievable without a turbo...... now thats engineering! |

Sort of rebuilt mine. Not very wise given it's value. But then again it's a good drive. And after 4 years it hasn't really cost me a lot more than running a Ford Focus or similar. Think you will struggle to get much beyond 200Hp from the engine if you want to keep the torque. Torque is what these cars are all about. ![]() |
