 Post subject: 944 cutting out

hi tony here just joined ot a white 944 1986 2.5 love it to bits its been general transport for the wife for 2 years but is now in my eyes just my toy since she got a nissan runabout
the only problem with this is i don't tink she likes it and i mean the porsche here because she starts fine and runs for about 2 mile or until you give her some revs then just dies wait about 2 hours and she starts good as gold anyone else upset thier porker like this with the same prob :(

Swap the DME relay & if it still gives a problem then you need to find out whether you loose sparks or fuel. Sparks I'd suggest possibly coil or TDC sensors (does the rev counter bounce off the stop when trying to start it?) Fuel possibly bad connection or knackered pump.

thanks for advice jim have ordered dme relay have also mean told by friend with v w transporter with same fuel pickup that his filter in tank was blocked causing same problem has 944 got similar filter do you no

Yup it does have a filter in the tank but as most don't even know it exists on the 944 I can only assume it blocking is V rare! It does have a filter under the tank in line like most injected cars but I reckon it'll be something other than that.

Could it be the engine temperature sensor set in the block near the front? Mine cuts out after about 10 miles. Will restart after a minute or two. I've been advised to try the temperature sensor so it's on order
