Post subject:  Wine from timming belt area

Hello I'm new to the club and obviously in need of some advice. My 944 8 valve 1986 has a wine from the timming belt area. The noise increases with engine revs, i have removed the power steering and alternator belts to eliminate them. The car has not been started for about 9 years but oil pressure is good and the water pump seems to be doing its stuff.Any ideas please
Thanks

The timing & balance belts all whine, it takes experience of a good set up to know whether it is OK or not.
By not started for 9 years that that mean the belts are 9 years + old? If they are then they need changing ASAP.
They are 4 years & 45K miles Maximum according to Gates. At that age especially if left standing it may need a water pump & some if not all the idlers & tensioners.
I'd check the tension on them (Clarkes, Pelican & various online guides) & run it for a while. The water pump may start leaking after being stood so long as the seal dries out.
It will need all new fluids, including coolant as part of the recommission.
