Hi all,

I'm Chris and I'm new

I bought an '89 944 S2 a month or so back, and am in the process of enjoying it when the weather allows. This is my first venture into Porsche ownership. I've wanted a 924 / 944 for a LONG time now, and felt I'd skipped over it with newer / more expensive cars, so felt now was the time to finally take the plunge.

It's a little rough around the edges, but presentable, in Baltic Blue with Stone leather seats and, some shade of dark blue dash / wheel etc ([b]let me know if you know the name of the 89 Porsche dark blue leather steering wheel colour as I want to get a restoration kit / re-dyeing done!).
It's managed a total of 151k miles so far - around 800 of them with me, and hopefully will keep going for a few more

I plan to continue to enjoy it, and potentially continue to improve it's condition, though I have other projects that will come first.
For now, improving its condition has been restricted to interior cleaning, and replacing broken bits (pedal rubber, and a nylon nut bodge on the headlight adjuster screw until the proper parts arrive!)

Steering wheel condition is next - it's gone from sticky and dirty to degreased, but looking like suede so far!

Next will be possibly fixing more broken stuff:
The only bits that don't quite seem to work properly are:
Heated rear window.
Boot lid not popping up on the button.
Slight sunroof leak (though it's garaged anyway!).
Intermittent drivers headlight issue.
Under bonnet light.

Eventually, I have 2 rusty doors to sort, and some other small bubbling around what I assume are the usual spots, below the boot lid and side window seals.

Oh, and using it some more!

Welcome Chris, was this the s2 in Edinburgh? The one that had been to Monte Carlo? (If I remember from the pistonheads advert).

What should I have noticed before buying it?

I admit it was the first one I looked at (not the best way to buy these things I know!), but I like to think I went in with my eyes open. It wasn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things, and has a nice folder of receipts / history so hopefully presents a basis for a decent car. All that said, I don't know what my plans are long or short term, as I already have a Lotus Elise in the garage.
So far the 944 has allowed me to go on a run with my wife and baby girl though, which was all part of the plan

I thought about having a look at it but didn't. For me, looked decent value for money which is very important as you need a little fund set aside to run these cars anyway. Nice colour combination.

I thought it looked good value too, I did consider that these can cost a fair bit to run, it's a Porsche AND it's 25 years old after all. I'm not relying on the car in any way, so if it breaks it'll simply sit until I get around to fixing it (or paying someone to do it of course!!)

I love the blue / light grey colour combo. It's not a colour combo I would have ever gone out searching for, but I think it brings a touch of class to the car, and fits in well with the modernised look of the front.
