Hello all,

My names Dan, and I've just purchased an 87 met Black 944s.

Its my first ever Porsche, I just love how the 944 is dating now.....looks so retro and 80's! (I know it is 80's, but it LOOKS so 80s 8) )

I went for a 944s, which was for sale in Derby on carandclassic.
Overall it seems like a good car, just one small concern which is it sounds like the hydraulic lifters might need re-setting??, as when starting from cold its a little "tappety", then after about 2 mins, the "tappeting" stops, and it runs smooth (if a little high idle).

oil level is fine (I first thought it might be a bit low).

Cheers
Dan.

The other thing I've noticed is the oil smells very petrolly, and when starting it, it runs a little lumpy then runs fine when the tappeting stops.

Maybe this is more of a fuelling problem rather than hydraulic lifters do you think?

Hi Dan welcome to the fold, like your choice and colour :D

Now I am no mechanic, but sounds like you have two problems firstly I would say your oil pick up is slow possibly due to old oil or viscosity or more likely the filter in the sump is clogged.

Secondly the car is running rich.

Someone will be along soon to help, keep us posted and we love pics :bounce:

Thanks for the kind welcome gents.

Andywatson - Thanks for the heads up, seems like a logical place to start (oil and filter change), running rich I wouldn't know where to start on how to rectify.

Le4944 - Many thanks!

Clive (951torqing) - Thanks for the invite, and guess what, you are closer to me than you think (i'm in Matlock Drive behind Asda!) :D
