Hi...Just a quick intro

Thought I'd join up here as PCGB form has too much tumbleweed for me

Always had Porsche 911's from 964RS 996 Turbos 997RS etc etc but now have a 73 911T and just bought a 1990 registered Supersport.

Happy Days

Hi Jim

Thanks, I'm a couple of miles from Hadlow so nice and easy for me.

Will pop in to the meet if I'm around

Hi

Welcome to the forum, nice to see that you have owned several different models over the years. :)

I would be interested in how the current pair of Classic 911's are in your stable and not something a little younger given what you have owned.

Hi again Sean

I'm a classic car bod at heart though I will end up with another 7RS at some stage.

My heart lies with older stuff in many forms, even my Son has the bug and currently owns a 944 S2 and a 70 911T, we're all car bonkers.

You must have some insight, what do you know about the numbers as asked here?

Hmm, depends where you read, PCGB did a feature a couple of years ago where they say a total of 74 SSE models of all body styles were made for the UK market, with a world wide total of about 1580, making them a rare beast indeed, in fact the 3.2 Speedster world wide total was 2104, so the SSE is rarer

It's all smoke and mirrors, I suspect no one knows and that's why there is confusion.

I also think as the bodies ran out, 491's left the factory as an option without having the Turbo running gear.

I have yet to see 2 Speedsters the same in terms of Specification regardless of options.

They are rare and more importantly look gorgeous :)

Yes I guess we'll never know for sure but reckon it's rare enough to be quite collectable.

Without doubt, all the air cooled 911's with the exception of 993's have shot up in value over the last 12 months and are still rising.

Totally agree, especially viewed from the rear, the figures I quoted were direct from a Porsche Post but nobody is sure of the exact number of SSEs produced as they were a tick box option, and some body shops converted some narrow bodied cars to wide body using off the shelf body panels so check either under the bonnet or in the service book for that all important M491 option code on the sticker

You mention the all important 491 option code but I thought the Supersport was a separate model from 1986MY? whereas before this it was a tick box option???

The way I understand it the SSE later became just SuperSport both with Turbo running gear and brakes.

The M491 Turbo Body became an option on the run out of the Impact Bumper Model.

Clear as mud, hence why no one really knows the numbers. Chassis number will tell you if it is a genuine SS or not.
