Hello peeps,

just saying hi to all as ive just registered having taken the plunge and bought me a moneypit!
I know sweet fa about cars but love the lines of the 944 and always have, so decided to just do it.

I found a 944 lux, 1987, 94k, sapphire , full MOT, all electrics bar temp gauge working ( fan cuts in and out ok i checked ) , fully stamped service history, bodywork looks pretty good round all those bits you guys keep going on about...( i have been listening for a month lol ),
timing belt and roller got done last year , new battery and alternator n bits and pieces etc etc..........so i bought it for £2700 in a private sale.

I hope thats not a bad price but sometimes your gut rules the head.....

Thing is, i dont know what it should sound or feel like to drive. It handles well, got power steering a bit heavy compared to my 2005 astra(boring) but its a 1980s car and i havent driven one of them since, well, the 1980's, and im unsure whether things are happy.
It has an obvious rear exhaust box blow so is a bit noisy and vibratory, but i have wondered whether it might also be these engine mounts you guys go on about having packed up. Would idling and low revs vibration describe this ?

My brother is good with cars , got a 2 post lift , all the gear and 30years of triumph cars restoration under his belt so im intending using him remorselessly, but he doesnt know the 944 obviously.
Anyway, what i would like to pick your brains for initially is what do I do as a plan re. work to improve, maintain it.
Im considering sticking it in a Leeds based indy porsche shop and ask them to do an inspection and report and see what they say. Is this sensible or just paranoid ?
Im a bit worried cos Ive noticed a noise like a hoover being used next door !....it comes from the back end and i suspect its the fuel pump....does it gettin noisy means im about to blow up like an space shuttle booster?
Anyway, sorry if this is the wrong area to post detail stuff but its my first post hopefully of many, and cheers to any helpful suggestions. I appreciate a lot of stuff is here already but sometimes its hard to find.

Hoping to learn from many mistakes.....

Cheers guys and gals

Andy

ps. Is there a meeting for the Leeds area cos there doesnt seem to be any coordinators or much else listed....id feel a bit daft turning up to the Aberford meet and nobody went ...id like to join the club but if theres no meet nearby.....

Hi Andy

Welcome to Porsche ownership :)

The Yorkshire guys meet up on the first Tuesday of the month and have lots of knowledge of front engined cars between them. Going along will be the best way to learn about your car and the best places to take it for maintenance.

Welcome to the club mate, I live nearby in Bradford. First Tuesday of the month the club meets at the Arabian Horse pub in Aberford around 7.30.
I used to own a 944 2.7 lux, 1987 in white. Was a great car! Get to know it and you will enjoy it. You will get loads of info from the meet.

Bring on the sunny weather!!
