Hello, I'm Nick, a new Southern region member. I have a 2003 996 C2 cabriolet. My everyday car is a company BMW 116d. The 911 will only see sunny dry days here in Bournemouth from now on. I am keen to do as much maintenance myself as I can, and have already had some good advice from JMG, and its first service in my ownership done by them. I was also at the JMG open day a few weeks ago, and met some very helpful people, including Sean, who I now discover is our Chairman! I have about a thousand questions to ask about the car, and I am sure I will sort those out in the coming weeks/months/years? The first is the most simple, did I buy the right car, the whole air cool/watercool debate. Easy to answer, right? Still, it's good to be in the club, hope to get to a club night soon, I was at a meeting a few months ago where there was a robust debate taking place, so I left a little early, I am sure the next one will be different.

Hi Nick

Pleased to see you have found us. :)

That old chestnut, Air or Water? Easy, have one of each :)

Your cab is lovely, even with those dodgy lights and skinny ass

Hi and welcome Nick :hello2: as someone with a 2003 996, I might be biased but I think you've bought the right car. Please pop up some pictures. :D

Welcome.

I did a lot of work on my 996 myself when I had it so feel free to drop me a line for advice.

Cheers
Paul

Thanks all for the warm welcome. As soon as I figure out how to move a picture from an email onto here (which is an iPad) I wii put it on. In the meantime just imagine a standard silver 996 cabrio...

Sam, look forward to discussing the water/air cool debate further with you. Had a 1303 cabrio, 73, until about a year ago, finally swept it into a neat pile and sold it for £250. I do regret it now though, but ran out of space. What, by the way, is PM?

Paul, I will certainly be picking your brain for advice. Has anyone fitted the replacement SIM card tray into the PCM thing? Got the bit and German instructions, spent 6 hours trying to translate it with google translate, got fed up and emailed the German bloke, only to be told 'scroll down the screen, it is attached', and blow me he was right! Funny thing is my translation makes more sense than his English ones, except the bit where I have to insert a panzer into the klinsmann? I have also got the dashboard mounted picnic table raiser switch, mainly because the blanking piece looks a bit sad all on its own. More German instructions though.

Sean, skinny ass and dodgy lights? That stung. Plenty of 996 to 997 front end conversions around now, maybe we could swop front ends? 1 of each? See 'regret' above!

Nick, thanks for your previous welcome, and after, look forward to seeing you again.

Thanks all,

Nick.

If using an IPad, store your pictures on photo bucket (free) then link them from there. :)

PM is Personal Message.

Tried to add a picture, but no luck, will look again at the instructions, how long should it take to attach a 1.2mb picture? Any idea anyone, as I left it uploading for 20 mins and still it did not work.

Your picture is too big, 800x600 pixels is the maximum allowed.

If you email me your picture I will load it up for you. :)
