Hi - I've just joined TIPEC having owned a 944 S2 for about 5 years and a 986 Boxter S for 2 years.

I enjoyed a great evening at my local meeting at The Fox in Easter Compton near Bristol last Wednesday, many thanks to Sue and Mick Simmons and everyone who made me feel so welcome there.

When I bought the 944, I didn't know too much about them. It seeemed great the day I drove it home but rust soon started to appear on the sills and the bottom of the wings - if only I knew then what I know now!! I took the car off the road 2 years ago and have now decided to get on and have it properly restored. Having easily tracked down an offside sill (genuine Porsche part), I now find that I have to wait until mid June for a nearside sill. Does anyone know where I might get a genuine nearside sill from stock?

Attached are some pictures of the car after the outer sills had been removed - it didn't look too bad after the outer sills were removed!!! Strangely, the offside has suffered more than the nearside.

As an aside, having looked at lots of other 944 S2s, mine seems to be unusual in that it has the pinstripe velour interior - most seem to be either part or full leather. Any thoughts?

Hi,
I think I might need the same doing to one of my sils, it's interesting to see what it looks like with them cut off, is it difficult to do? Are you welding/repairing it yourself?

Keiths (avants2turbo) has a similar interior to what you are describing..take a look at the pics on one of the last posts on this thread:

Hi - thanks for the replies, I'll give the guy in Surrey a call.

I'm not brave enough to do this work myself, I've found a good body shop who don't charge the earth in Chepstow not far from where I live. I do have lots more photos if you would like to see what you could be letting your self in for!

Drop me a line and I'll send them to you.

Mike
