Afternoon guys (well it was before I tried to shrink some pictures).

Just joined the club and thought I would (try) and post a few pics of my new car. Some good, some not so good.

Bought the car over in Northern Ireland around November last year via Ebay and back to Scotland on the ferry, which was easier than I thought (apart from trying to read anything on the dash in the dark).

The car itself:

Nice condition inside and out - took it down to Stuart at SP Authobahn in Stirling who agreed it's a good un. He also gave me a very long list of things to check before I went - very helpful chap!

Only 82,000 miles on the clock, though I understand it was laid up for 8/9 years in a heated garage by a previous owner (only 3, plus me).

About £2.5K was spent recommissioning the car in March 2010 (incl. belts, cam chain, tensioners) at LUX 22 Trading in Welwyn - tried googling them, but nothing came up (anyone ever use them?)

Only mechanical downside is that a new clutch is imminent - lots of rattling when changing gear, which I understand is the rubber doughnut falling apart. I believe it is the original clutch though, so not bad for 22 years.

As the car was going to spend most of the winter in the garage, I wanted to get underneath the car rustproofed. Stuart also does restoration work and did a great job (Dynax).

When I was inspecting the car I checked the sills as best as I could, taking the black vents out and ' having a look in '. However - I have now stuck a camera in there and sadly I can see rust, drivers side looks worst (nothing like some of the scary ones I have seen online though).
I think this is something I will need to sort out quite quickly, certainly before next winter - or sooner if someone thinks I should.

Has anyone got a recommendation for getting the work done on the sills? (I live close to Stirling, half way between Glasgow/Edinburgh.

That's about it for now

Kevin

Welcome Kevin, that's a nice looking car.

Do you have much history and receipts with the car? I ask because that looks like an after-market rear spoiler - I think the early S2s had the old style rubber spoiler on. However that one would look really nice colour-coded.

Did the headlights pop up when you turned the sidelights on?

Hi John

There are annual receipts up to 94 (Chariots) when the car was first sold - nothing really after that. Seems to have been serviced/looked after by an Indy up to 2004 (no paperwork) when it went off the road. Then recommissioned in 2010.

For info - I've got the original bill of sale from Dingle Garages in Gwynnedd:

On the road @9/2/90 - £33,984.44 (included ££117.00 door panel inserts, £42.00 top tint windscreen, £827.00 sunroof and £146.00 for clother (sp) bolsters (whatever they are?)

Sold in 1994 for £15,850.00 - quite a depreciation in 4 years I thought?

Tried the headlights on only sidelights - they do not pop up - is this a bad thing :?:

There is no receipt for a new spoiler in the papers, so don't know if original or not - looks nice though :) Think I'll need to do the clutch first though, before I think about painting it :D

Lights sound OK. Should be -
Sidelights on - headlights do not pop-up
Dipped beam on - headlights pop-up
High beam on - main beam in headlights and driving lights in bumper come on.
Turn back to sidelight position and lights stay up as on your photos
Turn lights off and they retract

The 'pre-S2' models worked differently.

Spoiler is definitely after-market. I got my car back yesterday from the garage and checked the profile of the rear spoiler just to confirm. Yours is an early S2 and would have had the same rear spoiler as the previous 944s. The last run of S2s had the 968 rear spoiler fitted.

Allow about £700 fitted for the clutch. 82000 isn't especially good for the original clutch, mine lasted 201000 miles!

If you want scaring about your sills look up Jim's (TR7V8) photos.

For £2.5k recommissioning a lot more than belts chains and tensioners must have been changed.

However when it's all done you'll enjoy it.

Nice one Kevin - hope to see you at a "meet" at Sulzeruk's unit in Bonnybridge! Alasdair will be able to give you advise re belts/water pump, sills and clutch etc.
