hi Red and Jim,

i have looked on the pitonheads website, and i mailed paul from there about his. some nice cars on there :)

i work all week, and only have a sun off, so time is limited. if i can get to see a few in one day within a reasonable distance to each other, then great!! i'm going through this site with a rate of knots reading all the info i can to prepare myself and to make sure i know what to look for. i do have an ideal of what i want, but i know in the long run, i will have to compromise on things like colour, spec etc.....

cheers for all the help so far guys, its very much appreciated!! if you see or know of a car thats coming up for sale and think it'll be ideal for what i want, then shout it out!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

if it was just my cash and not for my 40th, i dont think i'd be as fussy as i am, but if the good lady is offering to give me cash towards one, then i want the best for the money

All the best on the hunt. All part of the fun. I would urge you to avoid dealers with the exception of Jon Mitchel as hes a bit different to the others. (Use these guys to get my parts even though I'm up in Yorkshire.)
There are a couple of twin cam S models for sale on here. Lindseys is a beautiful machine & well worth going out in if only to see what they can look like! Cab's have there problems. Don't like the scuttle shake myself. Drive one first & compare it with the coupe. The 944 wasn't designed as a cab'. Others love them so only you can decide. :)

The thing that puts me off:

Look at the invoices he lists at the bottom - the milages, dates and costs. He's spent a fortune on it. Seems to have cost a grand at least, every thousand miles....

i seem to have a lot to learn re the 944's :D

looking at that, with all he's had done and the cost over the years, plus the low mileage, i'd be all over that like a tramp in a cheap suit, i see what you mean though.

It's a relatively low mileage car, so either he is very pedantic on having things done, or......

Also has a cracked dash. A lot of money on a car worth 3700.

There a another one the same on PH with 63k on the clock

Low mileage is bad. Higher mileage is good. These cars don't like to be standing around. Bought mine off a guy who'd done 1K miles in the 2 years he's had it. He just didn't know the engine had issues. Soon found the faults when I started using it daily. As to spending a fortune on one thats no crime. Guilty of that myself. Thats an enthusiast & wouldn't put me off. Though most of the work looks pretty minor except for a decent suspension rebuild. Listing replacement bulbs? Whats that about. In fairness when he started spending money on it they were still worth good money. Prices have only collapsed in the last 18 months. But No new water pump & it will need one. Prices look silly for the work done. Some specialists take the mick. Fortunately they aren't all that bad.

wow, so much to learn :) cheers guys!!

another q, (sorry!!) but i intend to use one on dry days only, so, say over the winter, what is the best way to store these to stop things like brakes seizing etc...? it will be garaged under a cover. so the best car to go for is one that has been used regularly, with all belts, water pump etc done recently from a specialist, with decent mileage?

cheers again doods,
Al.

I will probably just park mine in the garage with a Porsche dust cover over it. Intending to polish up the engine bay during the winter. It will also have a battery conditioner attached. I may take the battery out and keep that indoors. In that case the hatch door will need to be left ajar. The battery on a 944 goes in the boot and hatch won't open without it.

Or:

I might buy an air bubble thing (carcocoon) and put the car that in the garage. Keep it in regulated tempature.

Ideally, I may knock a wall on the house down - bring the car indoors, and then the missus can polish the engine.

I expect other members will have their own methods.

GO & LOOK at it. Look at every one you can get to & talk to the owners & go out in the cars. You will be amazed at the difference in the way 2 identical cars drive & handle. Condition is everything. Lindseys may be out of your budget. Maybe not. You might twist his arm a little. But you will see what a good one is like. Cheaper by far to buy a good one than spend ££££s bringing a tired one up to scratch. Like I said your not too far from me & your welcome to have a spin in mine. I only have a 2.5 8vlux. But on the dyno it has beaten more than one S2. incidentally it still isn't how I want it!! :blackeye: The more you go out in the better your choice will be. :)
