Hi,

I just thought I would introduce myself as I have just invested in my first Porsche.

My name is Dave and I live in Loughborough. I have been after a 944 for quite some time now and have been to see some pretty beaten up Porsches over the last year or so! Finally I managed to find a car I was happy with and I have been grinning from ear to ear all week taking the car for a drive whenever I get the chance.

The car I have purchased is a 1990 944 S2. I was really impressed with the condition for the age and the interior is mint. It has a few minor faults that I am going to look at this weekend, but is perfectly drivable, just needs a little bit of TLC to make it a fantastic car. The car has a full Porsche certified service history and only 102k on the clock. I have taken a couple of pictures, but I am a bit of a sucker for detailing, so once I have given it a full polish and wax it should really look the business.

You'll also see in the picture I have an 8 valve Mk2 Golf GTI around the same age. This was my first car which I have owned for 4 years now. I bought the Golf to learn more about cars and how they work, it is such a beautifully simple engine and a joy to work on, so has hopefully put me in good stead ready for the challenge of running and maintaining the more complex S2 (power steering, central locking and ABS are all new to me!) :) Unfortunately I am going to have to sell the Golf soon as my girlfriend says I am hogging up too much of the driveway, shame as I was getting a nice modern classic car collection on the go! I have been tidying it up ready to sell, just need to sort out the timing and it will be good to go to another home. 168k miles and still going strong, so I am looking for a good home for it to go to.

I am hoping to take my Porsche to one of the TIPEC East Midlands meets either this month or next. It would be great to chat to some other local enthusiasts within the area and to get to know a bit more about the club.

As soon as I have given the 944 a good going over I will post up a couple more pictures for those that are interested.

Dave.

Hooray!!!!! A proper intro......no need to ask what car, what colour, where you live, or for pics!

I'm your local RO so it would be good to see you on Tuesday 16th in Markfield if you can make it. They're quite informal affairs. We meet about 7-ish for a meal (if you like), kick a few tyres, have a beer and a chinwag, I make an ar$e of myself for a few minutes, then more natter.

Enjoy the ride

Sounds good. Got a long journey the weekend before, so as long as the car makes it back in one piece I will definitely pop along. Look forward to seeing you then!

Dave.

Really gutted, but I am not going to be able to make the meet on the 16th. Managed to break my S2 and waiting on replacement parts to arrive before I can start driving it again.

Will hopefully have everything up and running by the next meet. Problems with the car aren't too serious, just a bit of an unscheduled pain!

Cheers guys,

Dave.

Would have done, but the insurance for the golf runs out on Monday. Might pop down in the Alfa if it is fixed by then. Been at the mechanics for 4 days now since they changed part of the selespeed gearbox as it was leaking and now they can't get it into third gear! My girlfriend loves Alfas, she wants a GT next. I just don't understand why? They just keep going wrong all the time and until she bought one I thought all the jokes about the electrics were an over exageration... nippy car though and they look pretty nice, but would never recommend one.

So yeah, will pop over if I can, even it is in an Alfa. :)

Cheers,

Dave.

As Sean says, no matter what car you're in. One of our members used to own a Porsche and recently sold, he now turns up in a Lotus Elan

Ah, I love the Lotus Elan - was considering getting one of those at one point, but I just prefer the 944 more! My girlfriend's brother used to have an Elan in red, looked the business in the summer with the top down. Got quite a backside on it as well (the car, not my girlfriend :))

Also just signed up to be a member of TIPEC today. Had to sort out my insurance today as well as my current policy runs out next week. Tried using CVI but they wouldn't insure me, mainly due to my age and the fact I haven't owned a rear wheel drive car before which was a shame. Seemed to be a similar story with some other classic insurers as well (probably use the same underwriter), hopefully will have a bit more luck next year when I have owned the car a bit longer. Went for Footman James in the end at £320 which wasn't bad at all really.

Dave.
