Hello everyone - I'm another newbie just joined! Perhaps I'm unique on here already as I'm semi-disabled (nothing too serious, I just walk with one hell of a limp). Just bought myself an '06 Cayman S after a lifetime of 'normal' cars and I'm juuuuuust luvin it - though, given that I know precious little about cars, am a bit nervous about the potential costs etc.. Hope you guys on here don't mind me asking questions (probably stupid ones at times) as I want to catch up a bit on what I've missed driving wise during the last 52 years. The first thing that's alarmed me a bit is the amount of oil my Cayman is using - I've read that the reduction from maximum to minimum across 900 miles is normal (though others say it's excessive). All thoughts welcome hehe. Anyway, thanks for having me lol. Wazzer

Hi and welcome Wazzer :hello2:

I think some of the engines do use oil, but not sure how much is acceptable?

I expect Jon Mitchell will pick up on your oil consumption concerns soon, and be able to put your mind at rest :)

Welcome :)

Some engines do use oil and it would appear to be random in that the same size engine may or may not use a bit.

Hello and welcome, oil consumption does seem a bit excessive but Porsche will say its within the cars tolerances, also bear in mind the harder you drive the more oil you will use

Thanks guys for those responses. I'm monitoring the oil closely and trying to piece it all together - above all else am so lovin' it. How the hell I'm going to stick to my plan of '6K per year' I really don't know - just done 900 in 3 weeks, ooeeeerrrrrrrr!

Nick soz - manual says 1.2 litres. I've cautiously topped it up (worrying about faulty gauge) and I'm getting it back up to max so no leaks I guess. It does seem a lot but then I've never owned a Porsche b4.

Hi and welcome. Did your old 330 BM' use any oil? Some of those engines can be very thirsty, although my 330ci (back in the day) only needed a small top up every 3000 odd miles... I wouldn't expect a modern Porsche engine to use much more than that but John Mitchell on here is your man for advice.

Don't worry about the disability thing too much. I can think of at least two members in the North West Region who use prosthetic legs and still mange to enjoy their cars! ;-)

Hi Rich - prosthetic legs heh? That's quite somethin'! Naar the beamer used virtually no oil. Jon's offered some tips (great) in the meantime close monitoring is my approach. Thanks!!!
