Hello, I have just purchased a rather beautiful 1993 928 S4. My first Porsche and I'm very pleased with her. I'm new to posting messages on online forums so I hope its not the wrong place to post alongside my intro a couple of questions?
Can anyone recommend a good SE London garage where I can take my car to have a new cam belt fitted? And yes I will have the water pump replaced at the same time. I also would like them to look at the flex plate, wheel alignment, check the springs and shocks etc. My car is in very good condition and did have a new cam belt 18K miles ago but this was 9 years ago and from what I have read online I should have this done now for peace of mind. Also, I have heard that repairing the heater can be expensive. I have what I understand to be a common problem where the heater blows either Arctic or Sahara. Again any advice would be appreciated. Jeremy

Hi Jeremy :)

Welcome.....

I will answer the questions which I know the answers to...

Most 928 owners go to Paul Anderson in Stroud, he races 928s, and its all he fixes as well, what he doesnt know about 928s isnt worth knowing to be honest...

People travel from all over the UK to go to him....and hes a really nice guy as well...

Your heater problem is probably a sensor..there are 2...1 outside in the alternator air ducting (easy to do yourself) and one inside (behind that little circular duct in the middle of the dash)...that one is an absolute pig to do lol...

More details needed of what it DOES or DOESNT do... ??

The belt/pump need changing EVERY 4 years (mileage does NOT matter) so you are correct they need doing NOW....

All the best Brett :)

Thanks Brett,

Everywhere I look I seem to see Paul Anderson's name. He seems quite a legend. Ideally though I am looking for someone more local as I would like the convenience of being able to pop there at the drop of a hat. I am told there are a couple not far from me, one is RGA Porsche Centre and the other is Tower Porsche Specialists. Do you know anything about either of them?

The heater at the furthest left adjustment is bloody cold. 2mm to the right of this and the heating is almost unbearable. I will look at replacing the easier sensor first. Do you know where I might buy one?

May I ask you another question. I have a 1993 S4. When did they stop making the S4? What I suspect is that it's really a 92 that sat for quite a while in a showroom due to the GTS being launched. Is there somewhere I can research the body and engine numbers to see how near being the last this one might be?

Hi Jeremy :)

I have heard of both the London garages buT know nothing about them....others will chip in with an opinion though...

Porsche sell the sensor although I seem to remember you have to have the piping as well (outside one)... if its the inside one, then it comes with a little fan as well....the way you test the inner one,is with the igniton on, you blow smoke into the little slotted hole and you SHOULD see it drawn IN....IF its working...

On years...I "thought" that 91/92 was the LAST year of the S4....

All the best Brett :)
