Hey all,

I have posted this in the 944 section but thought i'd stick it up here so more people view and might be able to help me out - hope this is ok, if not feel free to remove / delete as appropriate, i dont wish to offend :)

Names Mark, currently run an RX8 after getting rid of my VX220, looking to get a nice 944 to use on track days :)

I'm new to the forum and the world of Porsche's so go easy on me :)

I'm looking at an S2 944 which i'd be buying with the goal of tracking. I have seen what i believe to be a good honest example on eBay - ending tomorrow.

Here's my dilemma, the car has no service history and i understand the clutch is a £1200 job to replace if its knackered.
As I'm currently up in Dundee and the car is in Newcastle i have no way of inspecting the clutch myself.

Do you guys know off anyone i could phone to go and have an inspection carried out on the car local to the Newcastle area - or any members who would generously give up an evening to have a nose around it and let me know?

I have tried the AA but they wont inspect cars older than 15 years old :(

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mark :)

Hi Mark,

You could try Tom Ferguson in Gateshead (0191 4900777). He provides one of the technical helplines for the club, so he will probably be able to arrange an inspection for you. He may even know the car already if he has serviced it at all.

Hope this helps.

Simon

You got off lucky there, I think—I’ve heard a shocker of a story about AA inspectors trying to check over a 944. Let’s just say that the most positive part was where he failed the car for the bonnet not opening … after pressing the boot release button time and time again!
