Could you spell out the steps and products you use in a little more detail? I saw you listed the steps earlier in the thread but now I'm even more confused since the verb "to mop" seems to mean more than just wash with a sponge and warm water!

Excuse my ignorance! :clown:

mop...machine polish....same thing ..but each car / paint job is individual....
if it has collonite wax on it ,its alot harder to remove and prep for machine polish than turtle wax !

as far as going through the products i use and methods ....its not really some thing i would like to try and go through
on my keyboard ...its quite specific to the veh

dale ....

Clay is point less unless you are gonna mop after tbh as all you are. Doing is stripping the paint
Of any polish and debris !!!! Be carfull a little knowledge is a dangerous / costly thing

I totally agree, a little knowledge is dangerous

I fail to see how using a clay bar is pointless, dangerous or costly.

It surely depends on what you want to do and how far you want to go. If the paint is covered in crud your going to need a clay bar to get rid of it. Whatever polish you apply if you haven't used a clay bar first will be pointless as your polish is sat on the crud not on the paint.

You can then use a cleaning compound by hand then apply polish and wax. It will give you a finish, it might not be perfect and will be hard work but it certainly won't be pointless.

Sure you can have the car mopped but you can only do this so many times. :)

i have been and rectified a number of paint jobs where people have set about their pride and joy with out prepping for use of the clay bar 1st ( chemical strip ).....and then clayed a car with just water NOT a suitable float solution...thus resulting in abrasion damage ..

as far as mopping goes yes i agree if you are using cutting compounds BUT things have moved on a bit ,micro burnishing machine compounds actually roll over the scratches and burnish the edges of the defective de lustred areas ..thus softening the edges of the scratches that prevent light refraction ( shine )..and are far more gentle on the paint ..

just trying to prevent people damaging there pride n joy......dale

Let's not assume everyone is incapable and a clay bar stage using the correct lube (there are clays that use water as a lube) is not pointless.

All polishing will break down the sharp edge of a scratch. The question is how far do you want to go?

The more aggressive you are the thinner the paint will become.

The journey should start with how to wash your pride and joy properly, which will prevent a lot of the damage occurring in the first place. :)
