Lunch time today I found myself in a famous pub (well, famous in the Peak District) with 25 or so Porsche enthusiasts who had met up for a breakfast run through the 911UK forum.

So, me and Mrs RichardKS find ourselves sat with 5 gents, who we don't know, and they get talking about PCGB and how they're all members with little invovlement in their club (good taste prohibits me from publishing their reasons). Diane pipes up and asks whether they have considered involvement with their local TIPEC group. As one they said "who?". Me and Diane gave them a run down of what TIPEC is about and they nodded sagely.

This got me wondering what we, as a club, may be doing wrong when it comes to getting our very existence out there. Anyone got any ideas, or opinions on this?

Richard, this one I hear quite a bit and I wish there was a magic bullet.

The biggest problem we have is our name, TIPEC means sod all to no-one other than ourselves. I wanted to change the name but was very much in the minority. At least PCGB are generally referred to as Porsche Club GB which helps.

We advertise monthly in GTPP and 911UK and are pretty well represented on the forums. Ironically we have a thread for Beaulieu on the 911UK forum which is next to the Peak District drive.

Our shows generally get good reviews and we attend all the big national events. It is clear looking at the regional photos at events that the flags are not being used which would help our identity.

Not sure what else we can do but open to suggestions.

Thanks for your reply Sean. Indeed, the adverts are in the mags: OggyDG's 997 turbo features in the current ad in GTPorsche. I have also spotted the Beaulieu thread on 911uk.

Gawd knows how the word can be spread.

I found TIPEC by using the net, then comparing the two main club's websites and forums, and coming to a decision. All the info is there for anyone with a little common sense

I took the same route as AML911 by using the net and comparing sites, it's not rocket science and if a numpty like me can find my way to Tipec am sure others with half a brain can as well!!!

I do have some sympathy with the club in promoting itself to the wider audience, advertising is one way, top of internet search is another, surely the best way is word of mouth and the activities in each region, let's face it Tipec is brilliant value for money and the best way to attract new members will be from current members,,, in my humble opinion :alien:

Hi :)

I found TIPEC long ago with a net search for PORSCHE 928.....

These days almost everyone finds things (and clubs) through the net.....

If I were running Tipec. I would spend every penny the club can afford on a new website and a new forum...... nothing on anything else in the way of advertising...... IMHO... :)

All the best Brett :)

Maybe in today's current climate, we should drop the "The" from the name and become " i-Pec" :-)

In all honesty, I agree with Sean and think our name in full is too long and as he says, Tipec only means something to those who already know.
Porsche Enthusiast Club is better

Maybe that is it, the gents in question were too afflicted by numptyitis to manage a google search... Maybe we're best off without 'em! ;-)

I agree a name change would be a good idea as is the website/forum suggestion.

I can't make the AGM due to rugby commitments but I would back this as a motion if I were there.

Typing 'Porsche club' into Google and TIPEC is third on the list. 'Porsche forum' gets TIPEC as fourth.
Thats exactly what I did after buying a Porsche, not knowing anyone who had one and wanting to join a club.

A bit of research and a trip out to join the North West region for a run out convinced me that TIPEC was the club to join. It didnt matter what it was called.

Subsequently I have been promoting the club by word of mouth helped by the cars reg TPC 911 F

So if we change the name can it be The Porsche Club or something along those lines or I will have to change my name!

Our Google Search Ranking has been good for a few years now. :)

At the AGM we will discuss calling ourselves "Porsche Enthusiasts Club" Independent of the factory and Porsche AG. To maintain our maverick status.

I will give you £50 for your plate Dave :bounce:

HaHa oddly enough it didnt cost me anything. It was on a non running BSA on Fleabay, so I bought it got it running and sold it again.... Having taken the reg off

If we change the clubs name I will have to look out for PEC 911 on an old Norman Nippy ! Somehow
I dont think I would get away with that
