I'll be there and see if Geoff wants to join me.

What about Sidbounce in the 928? Not too far for you.

Thankyou :) It's OK I sort of decided to go after I'd been outside as I noticed it was 10pm and I have a 45 min journey home!

Hoping to come for food next time too :)

Anyone from here going to the Atherstone Show? I will be there on Sunday :)

Any idea where the 911 PW is being held? I may end up going to Atherstone on the basis of it being closer (and the engine being a little sick).

Remind me to check forums more thoroughly (doh!).

On the basis of the sick engine I'll see if I can make Atherstone :).

Nice to see everyone there as ever (and I mean that most sincerely folks.............)

Here are the notes my secretary took for me, I had them typed up by my PA, and they're published here courtesy of the extensive I.T. department putting in so many hours behind the scenes - thanks to all of you.

Date of Meeting : 15th September 2009

Attendees:

Graham & Carol Waller 911 SC
Eric & Karen Finlay 964
Steve & Sharon Jory 993 C4
John & Shirley Osborne Alfa
Chris Belfield Alfa
Sean Smallman VW
Geoff Booth VW passenger
Nicola Zadrozny 944

Apologies:

These were received from

Tom & Kerry Fisher (playing with new digger)
Alan Fuller (cruising)
Sidbounce (working away)

A warm welcome was extended to new faces – Nicola who has been very active on the forum (ucp.php?mode=login) and owns a gorgeous 944. Nicola is a motor science student at Derby University and this is her 4th Porsche – all in less than 5 years of motoring. Welcome.

Since Previous Meeting:

 23rd August (Sunday) – Arbury Hall. A Transtar event, which was attended by some 15 TIPEC Porsches. Not bad weather either – just nice to chill out and mix with like-minded people.

 25th August (Tuesday) – Bosworth Classics. More cars this time as it gains in popularity. The weather helped, I’m sure!
 30th – 31st August (Sun/Mon) – Oxfordshire Classics, Blenheim Palace. This featured some 500 vehicles, all pre-94 with Blenheim as a backdrop. Free entry to the gardens and discounted entry to the palace (£7.50 instead of £17.50) made this a worthwhile trip. (The green 911 in the pics below won best 1970s car).
 3rd September (Thursday) – Panamera Launch, OPC Nottingham. This was to view three brand new Panameras in their showroom before the official public launch. Free drinks and nibbles, with the garage given over to each type of current model – Cayenne, Boxster, Cayman, 997 plus a GT2 race-specced car and a 968 (two “Do not touch” models).
 5th - 6th September (Sat/Sun) – VSCC See Red, Donington Park. A chance to watch Sir Stirling Moss racing a classic car with infield parking and pit access.
 8th September (Tuesday) – Ashby Folville. One of the last ones in the season.
 12th September (Saturday) – Porscheshop open day. A convoy from Tamworth to Hopwood before departing from there en masse. We got split as Derek struggled with his car starting (due to his hands), by which time it was just Adrian, Derek and your RO bringing up the rear. We headed East down the M42, only to realise we should have been heading West. About turn. We picked up the M5 Northbound and missed our junction. About turn. Then when Adrian peeled off left instead of right, Derek and your RO left him to it and went to Porscheshop. Adrian turned up about 10 minutes later. An enjoyable day with cars having free inspections and coffee being served. I bought me some overmats as they were knock-down.

Future Events:

• 29th September (Tuesday) – Bosworth Classics. An alternative and much quieter affair than Ashby Folville. Nice setting. Last one in their calendar and a very nice setting with things to do for all.
• 2nd – 4th October (Fri-Sun) – WOTY, Wales. See you there.
• 13th October (Tuesday) – Ashby Folville.
• 20th October (Tuesday) – Club night.
• 22nd October (Thursday) – A night with Richard Attwood. Richard (“Dickie”) from the West Midlands was a Formula 1 racing driver during the 1960s and 24 hour Le Mans in 1960s and 70s, which he won in 1970 in a Porsche 917. He is being interviewed by Andrew Wilkins at CWR Ltd, who prep race cars and will be showing suspension mods available to 911s. This is a strictly limited event and open to members only. Please advise me if you wish to attend and I will pass on your membership number. Warm clothing is essential.
• 13th – 15th November (Fri-Sun) – NEC Classic Car Show. A stand at this show has been organised by Central region and has all new cars from last year. Tickets are now available from the NEC website http://www.necclassicmotorshow.com/tickets.php, and the discount code is printed in this month’s All Torque. There will be over 1000 cars on display in 3 halls of the NEC veering 60,000 m2 with traders, vehicle sales, talks and seminars and with the addition this year of classic bikes. Definitely not one to be missed. If you are going, you will be most welcome on the TIPEC stand – make yourself known, and enjoy the display amongst friends.
• 12th – 15th November (Fri-Sun) – MPH, NEC. This coincides with the NEC classic, and is in the adjacent halls. This show covers prestige and performance cars with a total insurance value of £1 billion.

AOB.

Don’t forget, you can renew your membership online at http://www.tipec.net/.

Fore-warning is given for the TIPEC National Day/weekend 2010. This will be held on Sunday 6th June 2010. There will be a Cotswold Drive on Saturday 5th so you can stretch your Porsche legs, followed by an party in the evening with a Black and White theme (watch this space). A reggae band is being booked to perform – approximate cost for Saturday evening is £20 per head. The following day will be given over to the TIPEC National Day with a display of members’ vehicles (and some non-members), with side shows and events being spread throughout the day. More details to follow.

The WOTY is unfortunately fully booked – such is its popularity. For those who have missed out this year, then there’s always next year and we’ll tell you what you missed. If anyone does cancel in the meantime, I’ll keep you posted about availability. We will book a hotel with more availability next year.

*** STOP PRESS ***
A room has become available, so anyone wishing to attend – it’s first come, gone.
Details sent under separate cover.
*** STOP PRESS ***

The Christmas social this year will be held on Saturday 5th December at the Field Head Hotel. It’s early days yet (sorry!), but the price will be on a par with last year (£13.95, 2 courses / £15.95, 3 courses) and there will be a resident disco. Please let me know, and let me have a £5 deposit to secure your place. I will need to know choices of meals too but will get these at a later stage – I attach a scanned file of the choices. An idea of numbers would be appreciated, and we had a great time last year, chilling out. This year there will be a resident disco at no extra cost.

Again, Classic Le Mans next year is 9th – 11th July 2010. There were 200 places available, and at last count there were not much more than a dozen or so left. There is no need to part with money at this stage, but if you are interested, then I can only advise pre-booking it soon. See forum for more details - viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5059.

After the formalities, we had a quiz set by Quizmeister Graham. This was a ‘challenging’ quiz which really taxed the grey matter. The winners this time, walking away with a prestigious bottle were John, Shirley and Chris. They take with them the smallest bottle of whisky in the world which is not much bigger than a paper clip (oh, and a bottle of red wine).

Please refer to our calendar of events for future dates. I will soon be putting together a calendar of events for next year, but in the meantime if you wish to add anything in particular to the calendar, then please let me know and I shall see what I can do.

Graham
RO, East Midlands Region
