Since Previous Meeting:
Errrm, it’s winter, so errrrm, nothing really. Oh yes, I washed my car!
Future Events:
• 5th March (Friday) – Slot car night. Alan has organised this for 5th March at 7:00 for 7:30 at the Station Hotel, Loughborough. We had a fantastic time last year which became a little competitive. This is slot car racing and is on a purpose built track is 95 feet long with 6 lanes and has its own clubhouse at the back of the Station Hotel.
It’ll be a supper night out again (pizza) and numbers will be limited. Cost for the Scalextric will be £5, pizzas less than £10. Please bring a chair if you can, so as you have somewhere to sit and some warm clothing to start the evening. I will need numbers by the next meeting – limit is 24, we have 15 already. Let’s see if we can wrench the trophy from Eric’s hands.
• 7th March (Sunday) – Save Donington. Donington Motor Circuit is arranging a “Save Donington” day for all to show support of this once great circuit. This is still in the planning stage, but attractions include:
o Separate club parking.
o Q&A session with Kevin Wheatcroft (current owner, son of late owner).
o Newark-on-tour autojumble in exhibition hall.
o Various trade stalls.
o Possibility of a casino.
o Norton Motorcycles and Spyder club in attendance.
o The track (damaged) can be viewed.
o Discounted entry fee to museum.
o Nico Ferrari is displaying his ‘bubble and kick’ Porsche.
o Rides and entertainment for children.
The organisers have requested evidence of fan base by bringing along any item of memorabilia if possible. If you wish to attend, please e-mail
savedonington@live.co.uk including the make/model of your car, and “TIPEC” in the subject title. If you do intend to attend, please let me know so I can arrange club parking – other regions are in attendance. Please visit
www.savedonington.co.uk for more information.
• 13th March (Saturday) – Porscheshop open day. An informal gathering at Porscheshop. There will be free inspections, 10% discounts, cheap mats, revo downloads. Meet at Hopwood services at 10am for convoy to Porscheshop. Do NOT follow Adrian.
http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/bcatalog/p ... en_day.php.
• 4th April (Sunday) – Classic Car Show, Weston Park. This is our first major show of the year, and entry forms are readily available at
www.transtarpromotions.co.uk, or let me know and I’ll send you one. Please enter all Transtar events early so as to avoid disappointment and mitigate the cost of entry. We will meet at Tamworth and then with Central region nearer Weston Park for a convoy in.
• 14th April (Wednesday) – Curborough track day. A Central region organised event. Please contact Paul Bird to confirm attendance on
paulpsb928@yahoo.co.uk. Places are now seriously limited with only ½ day available (am).
• 17th April (Saturday) – RWYB (Run What Ya Brung), Santa Pod, Northamptonshire. This is a straight ¼ mile drag race and a timed event. Cost is £35 and you get to race your Porsche as many times as is possible. Arrive at Santa Pod early to avoid disappointment. You will need your driving licence, seat belts, helmets for open top cars and those doing over 110mph and arm straps for open topped cars too. Check this out -
http://www.rwyb.co.uk/index.htm .
• 18th April (Sunday) – TIPEC AGM, Gaydon Motor museum. This is members only but includes spouses/partners and is to carry out the official business of the club. Lunch is provided and free entry to the motor museum for those wishing to visit. Have your say.
• 25th April (Sunday) – Peak district drive out. Organised by John & Shirley Osborne, a chance to experience the beauty of the peak district. Route map to be determined/distributed at a later date. Weather forecast…………well your guess is as good as mine, hopefully springy by then.
• 8th – 9th May (Saturday/Sunday) – Cotswolds tour and Prescott Hill Climb. Saturday is a tour through the Cotswolds, with Sunday being a static display and cavalcade or hill climb. Those who entered last year should have received an entry form for this year, if not there’s one attached to the e-mail.
AOB.
A warm welcome was extended to our new members. Two new members attended tonight (Andy and John), with Steve and Linda yet to join. I also received an apology from another potential member who had intended to come alongbut could not due to work commitments.
The TIPEC umbrellas are now available at a princely sum of £23 + £5 P&P. If anyone wants me to organise for you, then I’m happy to do so on receipt of cheque/bank receipt, or I can put you on to the issuer directly (Dave Doherty, membership secretary).
We are supporting 6 Transtar shows this year (Weston Park, Catton Hall, Ragley Hall, Trentham Gardens, Beaumanor Hall and Arbury Hall), and those who have previously been should have received an entry form in the post. My advice is to book all the events that you can attend that we are supporting as soon as possible as some of them fill rapidly, and it is better to spend the £3 entry fee than decide nearer the event and end up paying the full entry fee of £16-ish. Entry forms can be downloaded at
http://www.transtarpromotions.co.uk.
We are organising three track events for 2010 (given enough interest). Central region will again be visiting Curborough on Wednesday 14th April which is very reasonably priced and we are invited to join them, then the RWYB (Run What Ya Brung) at Santa Pod raceway, Northampton on Saturday 17th April, then later in the year (Friday 10th September), a race day at Abingdon aerodrome (runway-based with plenty of run offs). If anyone is interested then please let me know. These are in addition to the Prescott Hill Climb in May.
Fore-warning is given for the TIPEC National Day/weekend 2010. This will be held on Sunday 6th June 2010. There will be a Cotswold Drive on Saturday 5th so you can stretch your Porsche legs, followed by a party in the evening with a Black and White theme (watch this space). A reggae band is being booked to perform – approximate cost for Saturday evening is £20 per head. The following day will be given over to the TIPEC National Day with a display of members’ vehicles (and some non-members, with an invite going out to the Marcos club), with side shows and events being spread throughout the day. More details to follow.
Paul Bird (Central) is organising a trip to Le Mans proper on the weekend of 12th-13th June, again through Travel Destinations. I attach a flyer advertising it, and this is the first time TIPEC as a club has made an appearance. If you want to be one of the ones that says “I was the first”, then please contact Paul or me, or you can book direct with Travel Destinations, but please advise us of your attendance. Le Mans website –
http://www.lemansrace.com/Again, from June, we are also looking at joining forces with R8 PCGB and going on some combined events.
Not in the calendar yet, but hopefully to be included this year is a trip to the Greyhound racing at Colwick, and (very hopefully) a trip to MIRA.
Don’t forget, you can renew your membership online at
http://www.tipec.net/.
If anyone has anything else they want to include then please let me know.
