Just a heads up that all A38 tunnels in Birmingham City Centre will close between 19th July to 2nd September for renovation works and new lighting.

I've also a suspicion that speed cameras maybe also put in, due to the new 30mph speed limit signs (although I cannot get this confirmed at present).

Also with immediate effect in the City Centre, anyone using the designated bus lanes will be given a £60 fine. They are using the CCTV cameras to enforce this. At present this applies to only the City Centre, but the Council have advised that they will be also looking to roll this programme out to all districts and suburbs in the future.

You have been warned. :( :( :( :( :( :(

Now with rebuilt engine complete, so must try warp speed more often...

and it's so easy to get across Birmingham without the expressway!! :x
They are closed quite often at night, so why they are doing them all at the same time now is a bit of a Joke!!

Unless like you say there's a bigger picture, because Birmingham Council isn't after the money from the motorist at all is it?
Well apart from 30mph with cameras on the dual carriage ring road :protest:

The tunnels have been closed every night for the last 3 weeks or so, if cameras are installed it will spoil some of our friends with TVRs etc who do early morning tunnel runs quiet regularily

So what happened in past if you strayed into bus lane? I assumed it was always a fine?

The tunnels have been closed previously overnight in preparation to the main closure from the 19th. I suspect that cameras are to be fitted, that is to say that they may not. It was just that 30mph signs have been put up and flashing speed signs.

As for previously being fined for using the bus lanes, this was never actively done - but now the CCTV will be monitored and anyone using them and seen, will be fined. As I said before initially this is just in the City Centre, but the plans are to roll this out all over the City.

You have been warned - Stuey.

Thanks Stuey. I was puzzled as in London over 10 years ago all bus lanes were cctv monitored - it was amusing when they caught my wife on one occasion! I just assumed that was case everywhere, since cctv so ubiquitous in UK
