Hi,
Firstly, Merry Christmas to everyone.

I have a pink paint isssue on the bonnet and door of my 944S2, which was out on Christmas day for a wee hurl.
Has anyone used mechanical paint correction?
If so how much does it cost and can you recommend a firm.

I have also thought about buying a polisher and trying it myself, but don't want to ruin it.
Any views on this

Before you throw money at a pro detail, it might be worth giving it a go yourself to see if the damage is reversable. If it is too far gone only a re-spray will do.

You need to buy a good paint cleaner, Meguiars Ultimate Compound Cleaner will do the trick. Takes a bit of effort but the results by hand are not bad.

If you have a claybar use that next.

Then a polish and seal with a good wax.

Hi Andy, Sean is right, a good T-cut used to bring my guards red 944 up. If you use the stuff Sean is talking about, you should get much better results. Let us know how you get on.

Under no circumstances use T-Cut, this will remove paint and make the problem worse.

The suggestion from Kelly at KDS was to use AUtoglym Super Resin polish which is very mildly abrasive & then seal with a good quality wax. This was to Clive our Guards Red 928 owner.

Really? I did not know this, you learn something new everyday. Luckily the 996 is still shiny from the showroom, so I haven't done anything to it yet. I think we need some sort of detailing master-class up here.

That's what the "cut" in T-cut means Lee.

It flattens imperfections in the paint and can be used to remove orange peel (lumpy clear coat).

If you can get a hold of him ( ) Michael at Planet-Wax does a darn good job.

tcut is just a more abrasive polish, equivalent to auto glym paint restorer. like most common polishes it is an fine aluminium oxide powder in a liquid suspension.

pink paint can be caused by surface oxidation of the paint which the polishing or cutting (exactly the same process just more or less abrasive) removes. polishes such as auto glym standard polish is just a finer grit.

if you cant polish it out then its a deeper bleaching/fading of the paint pigment caused by UV exposure.

so if your paint is pink you can sometimes remove the oxidized layer by cutting/polishing. if its faded deeper then the only cure is a respray.

if you can polish it out be sure to protect the paint afterwards with a wax or sealant.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I will try the Meguiars paint restorer kit first and see how things go. I will try it by hand first, and poosibly with a machine later.
Got my new leather gear gator in the the post today (sadly quite excited). Fitting tomorrow!

PS I have seen a grey 944 like Pastry's in Bishopbriggs. Is that you?

i'm in robroyston but got friends in bishopbriggs so could've been... not seen another grey one locally
