Hi,

At the NEC Classic show in November, I asked the committee about the club having a show some where up North for the members.
This is NOT instead of the National show at Gaydon in June.
Everyone is welcome from the club but possible people further South will not attend, which is fine.
So therefore I am looking for an event next year that we can use, even go along to some other car shows that are taking place.
Regions that are part of the Northern group are Scotland, North East, North West, Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Cheshire & Staffs but every region is more than welcome.
If anyone has any idea’s where we could hold this event, please let me know.

Best Regards
John Oakes

Harewood was almost one this year. Most of the others would do also. :)

In the old days we had additional Northern and Southern shows.
However as our national event 'Walton Hall' grew in popularity our members lost interest in them.

One Marque car shows have become very prickly subjects for a lot of car clubs.

Their are 3 main reasons, costs, expectations and the weather. You can no longer put a show together for a couple of grand. Most venues now charge so much that if the weather is poor, you will be guaranteed to make a loss. The public rightly want to be entertained and again this is expensive and getting the balance right is almost impossible. Then you've insurances, sound systems, toilets etc, etc to pay for, pushing the ticket prices ever higher.

I beleive that PCGB are not organising a main event next year and are going to stick with individual events for Modern, Middle Years and Classics that they have been running for a couple of seasons. With the criticisms after Blenheim I'm not surprised to be honest, I do feel that to lose a big event from the calendar is a real shame.

The car scene is now saturated with good local shows that are easy to attend, relatively low cost and meet the needs of local regions getting together and showing off their cars to the public.

I think it would be good to hold an event in the North and the South as long as it does not impact on support for the National Show in June.

I have been working on a Beaulieu event and will be asking members what other activites they would support.

I am also a member of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club and we had a show earlier this year as part of the Classic car show organised by Mark Woodward and held at Raby Castle. We were given as much space as we needed (40 cars) but could have had more. The entrance fee was £2.50 and all we had to organise were our own prizes and refreshments.

Hope this helps. Barry

Barry, you have got it spot on.

This is the type of event that we should be piggy backing and trying to cluster regions together to make a grander display.

It is way easier and less risk to the club to build on an existing event.
Ideally one which already has family attractions...

Specialist cars of Malton did a Porsche event at Raby Castle last year.
PCGB were there in force. Hundreds of Porsches including around 20 of ours.
Sadly the event though at a nice venue and with great weather was lacking somewhat.
With greater Club input it could be made into very good event.

However the PCGB Porsche event a Harewood House last was way better.
That venue has many more family friendly attractions already in place.
It would be much simplier to build on.
PCGB Yorks gave our club a warm welcome last year and I believe John Oaks has conections.

There is also a Cars in the Park venue at Harewood each year. Last year TipEC had nearly 50 Porsches there.

Another great event not mentioned yet is Mellerstein show just North of the border.

Live and breathe the Marque,
Stephen

Stephen,

The Raby Castle show was organised by PCGB North East Region and was sponsored by Specialist Cars. More attractions were planned, but a number of them pulled out at the last minute.
The TIPEC NE region has attended for the last couple of years to assist PCGB NE RO as he suffers from a lack of enthusiastic members willing to take commit to events too, despite having a very large number in his patch. Both years we have had more NE Region cars on display than at any at any other event, so it can't be all bad.

Simon

I am looking for a event that we can join (piggy back) Sean's words. Some good idea's from Barry sound good. I will have a look at them. Also if we join other events, this will not cost the club any money only time.
The main idea is to bring the Nothern part of the club together and just meet up with other regions. So a central show for most of the regions is what I am looking for.
Not sure about going to Harewood in June with PCGB. Also cost £10.00 per person to get into this event. Money goes to Harewood house only.
Cars in the park at Harewood sounds a good event. This event is run by Harewood so the entry fee is about £4.00
But I will keep looking over the coming weeks.
Stephen, not sure my connections will help that much. But will try.

Regards
John Oakes

Hi John,

Just had another idea if you are looking for a venue with a few more attractions perhaps you might like to consider Eden Camp, the POW camp just outside Malton. Lots to do for kids and grown ups, good cafe etc. Sunderland and district classic car club hold an event there each year and i do not think that the charges (if any) will be too expensive.

Also there are lots of local attrections for anyone wishing to make a 2day event. Saturday chip shop run?

Best regards, Barry.

Thats a great idea. we went there about two years ago and only managed to get round half of the museum! We said we would go back the year after and do the other half but it never happened! Its a very moving and emotional display and of course you have the car display outside. I think that Harewood has a lot going for it as there is something there for everyone,ie the house itself, the aviary, the planetarium, the grounds, lake etc. and if you can get in with a discount it makes for a great family day out.We joined the Ford Capri club at Southwell racecourse for a great show this year and we intend to repeat that next year.Inter marque tug of war etc. all good fun! We regularly piggy back on local car shows, they like the Porsches because they attract the crowds and we (Tipec) get the exposure too! The best thing though is if we can organise a piggy back type show and then get two or three neighbouring regions to come along as well and we can really put on a good display of Tipec Porsches! How about it folks? better to work together than on our own eh? :)
