Tipec (Scotland) “Spring Weekend” to Seahouses
Friday 10th – Sunday 12th May 2013

Friday 1.30pm
Meet at Milfield County Cafe (NE71 6JD) for lunch.
Milfield village lies between Crookham and Wooler on the A697.
The café is on the Main Street

After lunch, drive to Seahouses (24 miles) to check-in at the hotel.

Route from Milfield to Seahouses:
South on A697 to Wooler
Left on to B6348
After a couple of miles turn left on to the B6349
When you reach the A1, go straight across and take the B1342 for Bamburgh
At Bamburgh take the B1340 to Seahouses

The entrance to the hotel car park is off the main roundabout in the town centre.


Friday evening 7.30pm
Dinner at the Black Swan public house in Union Street, a couple of hundred yards from the hotel.


Saturday after breakfast 10.30ish
Drive to Holy Island (20 miles)
The approach to the island is via a causeway – covered at high tide…!!!!
Safe crossing times today are: 7.40am till 2.35pm.
(Let’s say 2.00pm for lowered suspension and low profile tyres.)
On the island we have to park in the main (only) car park. It’s a ‘Pay & Display’
There is a ‘Park & Ride’ minibus which operates around the island.

The National Trust – shop & information centre
Lindisfarne Limited – Mead, wines & spirits
The Ship Inn & Restaurant
Bean Goose café
Marygate House
The Harbour
Lindisfarne Castle - £6 admission
Lindisfarne Centre
The Priory

Saturday afternoon
From Holy Island drive to Bamburgh (17 miles)
Visit to Bamburgh Castle (£9.75 admission) or just enjoy the grounds and gardens.


Alternatively… return to Seahouses harbour for a boat trip to the Farne Islands.
Here’s two of the available trips……..

FARNE ISLAND CRUISE No Landing
Touring around Staple Island, Inner Farne and Longstone Island including the route of Grace Darling’s rescue. This cruise views the nesting birds in their natural habitat and visits the Grey Seal Colony.
This tour last approximately 1.5hrs. Dogs ARE ALLOWED
(Season dependent – may not sail on 11th May)

Grace Darling’s Lighthouse on Longstone Island
A guided tour inside Longstone Lighthouse, the former home of the local heroine Grace Darling. Sail around the bird sanctuaries to view the wealth of seabirds which nest on Farne Islands and visit the Grey Seal Colony. Includes a FREE landing.
This tour lasts approximately 2hrs. Dogs ARE ALLOWED to land on this island.
2.30pm sailing on the Saturday from Seahouses harbour. Group booking - £10 per person. Provisional booking made, including dogs. Confirm on the Friday evening.

Saturday evening
Dinner – either in the hotel or one of the many restaurants – we can decide that at the time.
Then a pleasant and relaxing evening enjoying a jovial and good natured quiz, with no arguing, disagreements, shouting or interruptions…!!! (Like that’s going to happen.)
Prizes (cheap) will be awarded including “Best behaved Team.”


Sunday morning
After breakfast, checking out and photo opportunity………..
Leave Seahouses for a drive to Kielder visitor centre for lunch (57 miles)

Proposed route:
From Seahouses join the A1 – heading south
Leave A1 at Alnwick
Take the B6341 to Otterburn
Head south on B6320 for 5.3 ml
Turn right
After 2.5 ml turn left towards Smalesmouth Bridge
Continue on to Shilling Pot
Turn right then after 1.5 ml arrive at……
