There was series of short programs on BBC2 once about trade secrets. There was one about chauffeurs. This old guy said that when he was waiting around he'd go around with the boot polish and do all the exterior black plastic trims on his limo. Works a treat, I used it on all the bumpers and arches on my last car, and I use it on the black strip on the rear bumper on the 944. Cheaper and just as good as some fancy bottled stuff.

I have used black polish on my bumpers and as you say it works a treat, if you have a bad scuff I found black shoe repair liquid works well (the stuff that comes in a tube with a sponge or brush). Have also used black magic markers and coloured ones for small scratches in colour coded bumpers and plastic, works well on the 944 mirror surround
