Post subject:  Wheel refurb recommendation in the North West

Hi, didn't want to steal Georges's thread so started another!

I have a set of Cup 1's which I want completely stripping and re-finishing to as new condition. I was looking into powder coating but have been told the finish will not be as good as paint? Is this correct? I have been quoted £80+vat per wheel by one place (for painted finish) which seamed a little steep to me?
I can't do a swap deal because the rears are rare 9J and knowbody has them in stock! Does anyone have any more information or good contacts around the North West?

Cheers

Simon

I have always had a PC finish as it is more hardwearing than paint. Local rice around here in the SE is £57 +VAT which is from Lepsons who are generally reckoned to be the dogs danglies by those in the know. They'd do wheels by carrier if you could afford the car being off the road a few days. Alternatively get someone to look after the pigeons & come down for a day or so they do same day service in either Gillingham or Swindon. Just checked they have a place in the West Midlands now.

The Blast Shop, Thursby Nr Carlisle, Mike Hethrington has done loads for me, he has a set of my wheels right now, he does a proper tyre off, chemicaly dipped, all scuffs dints and marks removed, he can repair cracks and buckled wheels.
He has been doing wheels for years and knows what he is on about, 17" s run out at £70 each .
He may be able to lend you a set of loan wheels if you drive up there.
Give him a call.....you will not be dissapointed !
