Post subject:  Removing Wheel Centres on a 944 S2

Evening all,

My latest toy, The Red Shed, has finally left the bodyshop having had 95% of the (visible) rust removed and is almost ready for public display. However, the centres of the standard alloys are somewhat bubbly and generally minging so I coughed up for some proper, coloured Porsche crest centres.

But how the hell do I get the old ones out??

There are two holes in the middle of the existing ones, which look like you need to stick a coathanger or similar down. Is this right? I have tried - very delicately - levering them out with a screwdriver but am worried I will knacker the rest of the wheel as they didn't want to move, so abandoned this before I did any damage.

So I'm guessing it is something to do with the two holes - any suggestions as to how to get them out or the tools needed are much appreciated, as the first attempt with aforementioned coathanger didn't really work.

Many thanks,

James

Yep, a coathanger bent into a U shape with the last centimetre of the ends bent by 90 degrees should do the job. They often need a good hard yank. Alternatively you can take the wheel off and just push them off from the inside

Lovely, I'll give that a punt in the morning. Many thanks for your help.

With the wheels done and the seats re-trimmed, it should be a half decent motor. (If one can overlook the annoying "clunk" it makes when going over uneven road surfaces, that is)

May have its first TIPEC outing on Monday night...

If you can't face sacrificing a coat hanger that might have some sentimental value attached to it, here's another method:

I tend to get a small allen key, hook that into the hole and pull on said allen key with a pair of pilers - works a treat.
